About this listen

"Listeners will be transported into the eerie world of this atmospheric modern fairy tale...The narrators also perfectly convey the ominous sense of doom as the sisters discover their mother’s hidden, unfinished script, White Fox, and start to unravel twisted secrets and dangerous truths about her life." (Booklist)

After their world-famous actor mother disappeared under mysterious circumstances, Manon and Thaïs left their remote Mediterranean island home — sent away by their pharma-tech tycoon father. Opposites in every way, the sisters drifted apart in their grief. Yet their mother's unfinished story still haunts them both, and they can't put to rest the possibility that she is still alive.

Lured home a decade later, Manon and Thaïs discover their mother’s legendary last work, long thought lost: White Fox, a screenplay filled with enigmatic metaphors. The clues in this dark fairytale draw them deep into the island's surreal society, into the twisted secrets hidden by their glittering family, to reveal the truth about their mother — and themselves.

Atmospheric and Intriguing

I really enjoyed this book and its subtle creeping plot. There are many times when I prefer atmospheric to fast-paced, and reading this book was one of those times for me. I don't think it suffers from being too slow, though. I won't say I was surprised by the twists, but I thought that the multimedia way of approaching the missing mother and how the daughters search for her was wonderfully executed, and in fact, I wish I had bought the physical book for that reason. The narrators are excellent and do a great job of giving the sisters their very different personalities. I will be listening to/reading more by Sara Faring.

Not worth it

Predictable plot... the narrator was in love with her thesaurus and the idea of a metaphor. YA at its WORST.

A complete waste of time

I struggled to finish this book because a struggled to care about the characters. I best describe them a flat and annoying. The blurb about the book offered a mystery, the only mystery was whether there was a plot. Plus, the younger sister (a drunk, high school dropout influencer) can't speak without using the f-word. I give it two stars only because I actually finished it, but I was sure glad when it was over.
