About this listen

Two friends. One pact. The performance of their lives. Hannah Abbott is stuck in a dead-end relationship and at a job she loves but that barely pays the bills. The four walls of her tiny New York City apartment have never seemed so small. She’s barely toasted her 30th birthday when her old college friend Will knocks on her door with an unexpected proposal.

Will Thorne never forgot the marriage pact he made with Hannah, but he also never imagined he’d be the one to initiate it. One ex-fiancée and an almost-career-ending mistake later, however, he finds himself outside Hannah’s door, on bended knee, to collect on their graduation-night pinky promise.

With both of their futures at stake, Hannah and Will take a leap of faith. Now, all they have to do is convince their friends and family that they’re madly in love. As long as they follow the list of rules they’ve drafted, everything should go smoothly. Except Will has never been good with rules, and Hannah can’t stop overthinking the sleeping arrangements. Turning 30 has never been so promising.

Cute but a bit lacks flow

This was cute. I loved the idea of the story (lol who hasn’t made some kind of marriage pact) and Will and Hannah were fun characters. Hannah reminds me of some of my friends based on music taste alone. The story seemed a bit jumpy and based on my preferences alone could have benefited from more transitions.

The read was slow though. I needed to speed the read rate up more than normal.

More Meat Needed

The male narrator CAN NOT do a female voice. For any of them. I wish it hadn't been a duet book.

I felt like the author rushed... which is surprising since the book is rather long. But it felt like they kept jumping in time, and then we didn't actually get much of them as a couple. At Chapter 32 I didn't feel like there was much of them getting reacquainted. They talked about shared kisses through the week, well that is the stuff I want to read - them being cute, and having special moments. They jumped from a party to 2 weeks later. I want to see them be cute in those two weeks. It is supposed to be a romance. It got boring. Also too much Madison - Yes I get she is really important to the story - BUT - I don't need the friend development if it takes away from the lead couple's development! I mean they are together for 4 months before the drama starts - but there hasn't been relationship development that we can actually see/read/hear.

It ended rather abruptly after all the angst. I wanted an epilogue. Let's see where they are a year later. Let's see the romance blossom.
