About this listen
Although Ophelia Garrett loved Cade Scott first, it was her sister he married and took home to his plantation. When Ophelia receives word of her sister's murder and Cade's arrest, she travels there on a mission to learn the truth. She soon finds the halls of Almenara are haunted by secrets, peril, and quite possibly her sister's ghost.
Despite the cold, angry man Cade has become, Ophelia's heart refuses to believe he is a murderer. Vowing to do everything she can to prove his innocence, Ophelia must open wounds she'd hoped were long healed and face the feelings that still burn between her and Cade. As everyone looks to Cade as the suspect, evil haunts the dunes and halls of Almenara, bringing death to two more young women and forcing Ophelia to confront the danger.

Fantastic listen!
Loved this gothic listen! Written in a classic gothic style, this would be great for listeners who enjoy the works of authors like Victoria Holt and Phyllis Whitney. Great characters and plot twists made for a throughly engrossing listen. Great narrator too, she did an amazing of bringing the story to life. The only reason I didn’t give the performance 5 stars is because there were many line repeats/mistakes that made it through editing and disrupted the flow of the story. I received a free review copy of this audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

The bad twin and the good twin
Ophelia (Fee) receives a message that her estranged twin has been murdered. Upon arrival at the home, she learns that, not only is her BIL accused of the murder, but she also has a special needs niece. The rub is that Fee’s BIL used to be her BF. Fee does not believe that her BIL, Cade, murdered her sister but she’s the only one. As bodies begin to pile up, Fee’s resolve is weakened and she begins to doubt Cade’s innocence. The betrayals, secrets and suspects can become too much. Will the true murderer be discovered before Cade is hanged? Will Fee survive the clutches of a ruthless killer and have an HEA?
This was a fast paced, great romantic suspense...I was totally surprised when the killer was revealed.
If romantic suspense is your thing, then you definitely don’t want to miss out on Ophelia’s story.

Maybe Ophelia has found her calling? Detective.
Thank you to the author for gifting me this audible version of this book. Which I won thru Aural Fixation on FB.
Ophelia Garrett had thought she had laid to rest the loss of her first and only love Cade Scott, who was stolen from her by her twin sister whom is now dead. Hoping to lay to rest her sister and her betrayal she travels to Almenara her late Sisters home, but upon her arrival and stay she finds a web of unrest, betrayal, lies, deceit and intrigue. She also finds that she still loves Cade and can’t leave till all is put to right.
The storyline is a very good and well thought out plot which I did enjoy, however having listened rather than read the narrator made numerous mistakes which where not corrected so it made it mediocre at best.
