About this listen

Kate Worthington knows her heart and she knows she will never to marry. Her plan is to travel to India instead - if only to find peace for her restless spirit and to escape the family she abhors. But Kate’s meddlesome mother has other plans. She makes a bargain with Kate: India, yes, but only after Kate has secured - and rejected - three marriage proposals.

Kate journeys to the stately manor of Blackmoore determined to fulfill her end of the bargain sooner rather than later and enlists the help of her dearest childhood friend, Henry Delafield. But when it comes to matters of love, bargains are meaningless and plans are changeable. There on the wild lands of Blackmoore, Kate must face the truth that has kept her heart captive. Will the proposal she is determined to reject actually be the one thing that will set her heart free?

Set in Northern England in 1820, Blackmoore is a regency romance that tells the story of a young woman struggling to learn how to follow her heart.

This was my first book by Julianne Donaldson and I will buy any other books offered after this by audible. Her characters are very well developed and every scene has a relevance to the storyline. I always like to have romance mixed with passion in a book and although this book did not have physically passionate scenes, the emotional ones were enough to set me on fire. The hero’s personality is firm and strong and commanding and ... yet so soft and gentle. The way he expresses his feelings with each proposal when the heroine does not suspect herself to be the truly intended made my heart break for him a little each time. As a reader you will truly feel all the wonderful emotions in this story. This will be a great purchase and a memorable book, one you will re-listen to over and over. A+++++

I absolutely loved this book and it could possibly be one of my favorite reads this year. Related the trapped in a cage theme of the book.

This book took me a few chapters to get into, but once I did, I couldn't stop listening to it. The story was sweet and romantic. The character development was great, but I wish the author could have built up more between the main characters. The story was still great and the ending was much better than I thought it would be. I'd recommend this book and author to anyone that loves historical fiction romance.

Romantic and sweet!

I never write reviews but had to say how much I enjoyed the story. The author's writing is so well done she makes you feel the emotion of the characters. The narrator was perfect in helping to convey those feelings. I loved this book and look forward to more stories from this author and narrator.

Writing was fabulous. Narrator one of the best,.

Love, despair, hope, sadness, tenderness, anger, passion, humiliation, longing, friendship, betrayal, etc. This amazing, painful, wonderful story is was a heart-wrenchingly difficult listen. I've listened to it twice and loved it both times. Though often unpleasant, I enjoyed even more the second time. This story is totally different from Edenbrooke, but just as wonderful. Ms Campbell's narration is fantastic! Well done Ms Donaldson!!

Wonderful, but Painful

I’ve listened to dozens of these clean historical romance authors and I have to say Julianne Donaldson is the best so far. With a depth much like Jane Austen (my favorite author of this genre), my only complaint is she only has two titles so far! Her books are addicting, another downside…you won’t want to stop listening until it’s over!

Interesting story that will be hard to walk away from.
