About this listen

What if Elizabeth had been sent away from Longbourn as a child to live with her aunt and uncle in London?

When a childhood accident forces Elizabeth Bennet to leave Longbourn and grow up under the care of her Aunt and Uncle Gardiner, her life takes an unexpected turn. On a trip to Derbyshire, she meets a young Fitzwilliam Darcy, whose father's guidance shapes the man he is becoming. What begins as a tender friendship blossoms into a love both fierce and true, nurtured through years of friendship.

Without Elizabeth's steadying presence at home, Mr. Bennet grows more indolent, Mrs. Bennet more frivolous, and the Bennet sisters drift toward lives of indulgence—except for Mary, who retains some sense of duty to home and family. But just as Elizabeth and Darcy are on the brink of happiness, preparing for their wedding, a sudden summons calls Elizabeth back to Longbourn.

With her family in chaos and the demands on Elizabeth overwhelming, will she and Darcy be able to stand firm in their love? Can they balance their dreams of a life together with the responsibilities pulling them in different directions? As past and present collide, they must discover what it truly means to love—against all odds.

The first half of this book started out well, but I had to struggle through the second half to finish. I found it to be more of a long-extended epilogue than interesting plot, unfortunately. I found it often repetitive and on the dull side. Sorry.

Second half falls short

Wonderful story and narration! Love how ODC support one another throughout this story! Darcy and Elizabeth meet while Lizzy is visiting Lambton with the Gardiners - unique meeting. Love the comeuppance for the less admirable characters and the growth of others to become better people

ODC so sweet to one another

Darcy and Elizabeth meet early and we are along to watch them grow

In this out of canon story, we journey with Elizabeth as she is sent away from her home due to her mother's anger. She lives a full life with her aunt and uncle. During one trip, they meet the Darcy family, and it has a good ripple effect for years to come. I did like how this Mr Collins is compared with canon. Family, love, and trust and factors in this story. On a side note: there were a few thing that could have improved with a tighter editing but it is still a good story & one that I will read/listen to again.

Update: 4/2/25 Audiobook - Benjamin Fife did an excellent job as always.

This author has always been one of my favorite. I have this book in my kindle library, but it is nice to listen when I’m moving around my home. Sweet, low angst story with a lot of ODC.
