Publisher's summary

Summer vacation isn’t all fun and hanging out when you’re a wizard-in-training. For partly reformed warlock Chance Fortunato, it’s even worse. In addition to the constant study and training, he has to prove he’s ready to be a full-fledged apprentice before he starts at the Franklin Academy. Plus, he’s beginning to think someone has it out for him.

If things weren’t bad enough with a snooty proctor monitoring his every move and demons trying to capture him, his father finally makes his first attempt to get his wayward son back under his control by trying to frame his mom. When the old man proves just how far he is willing to go with tragic results, Chance must make a desperate sacrifice-play to guarantee his freedom once and for all.

Alright fun

entering but not exactly memorable. Deus ex machina over used but it's fine. Author needs to stop saying monkey brain too often

Some new life added to the series here

I was worried that the series was on a down hill slide after the 2nd book. The first book was a nice YA urban fantasy with some VERY dark back story for the MC. The second book expanded on that a little, but I just felt didn't bring enough to keep this series going.

Adding the proctor into this book gave a great character that filled in the things this series was needing. It gave a some great comic relief, a natural tool to allow for exposition, a character for the MC as well as the reader to direct hatred towards, and overall it just seemed to fix several of the problems I felt this story may continue to have.

Well done.

Yet another good book!

Once again, the author and narrator were excellent in writing and well... narrating. I would definitely recommend this series.

Great book, great series

This series is fantastic and this one pulled at the heart strings a little more than the others. Be sure to look up Ben Reeder “books in order” to follow the sequence. It’s very good.

Another great book by Ben Reeder

The story lone is captivating as always. If you're on the 3 book, you are hooked anyway, but I want to star all of Reeders books so everyone knows they are great.

Enjoyable

I enjoyed this book. So many themes on redemption. People making choices to better themselves or change for the better.
Fun characters, along with a light witty writing style make this story an entertaining read!

Great Story

Really enjoying the story line. Can't wait for the next books

The narrator has a very unique voice. he doesn't do voices well but his inability paired with his voice somehow actually works. I don't know if it would with other books but seems to fit this series.
