Publisher's summary

"I don't need a line to know what is considered good or bad. But if I did, there isn't a line I wouldn't cross for you."

Rennick

When Rennick was thirteen, the gods bestowed upon him the name of his fated mate—a human girl. As the sole heir to the Mountain Kingdom, magic bound him to his kingdom until he ascended the throne on his twenty-fifth birthday. As a human, she couldn't cross the magical barrier separating the humans from the fae. Heartsore and consumed with thoughts of her, he did the only thing he could and sent her anonymous letters and gifts…

Until he crossed the barrier into her kingdom to claim her as his own.

Amelia

Six months after Amelia's thirteenth birthday, she received a strange letter from a fae boy claiming her as his mate. Humans weren't taught much about the fae, and one look at the horrifying doll meant to be her belated birthday gift solidified her suspicions that someone was playing a cruel joke. Except the letters and odd gifts kept coming. Against her better judgment, Amelia fell in love with her mysterious admirer throughout the years, certain they would never meet. But on her twenty-fifth birthday, her walk to work was interrupted by two familiar words she'd read a million times.

"Hello, love."

Viciously Yours is a fast-paced new adult fantasy romance that focuses solely on the relationship between the two main characters. This is a romance book in a traditional fantasy setting with minimal world-building. It is book one in the Fae Kings of Eden series of interconnected standalones, that is best enjoyed in order.

The male main character is obsessed with his mate and does a few morally black things to those he deems a threat to his relationship. There are no shades of grey. The couple has minor obstacles, but there is no miscommunication, third-act breakup, or cheating. For mature listeners.

Narrated in duet style.

Took me out my stump

Perfect! Great pace. Story line was enthusiastic and challenging. And the back and forth between voices like an actual convo is exactly what books need to sound like.

Cute concept

The story almost exclusively revolves around two people falling in love & marrying. There is some amount of world building and magic, but apart from mating bonds, familiars, and some invisibility skills, the world largely is an irrelevant backdrop. This was pretty much what I was looking for, so I enjoyed the story. :)

The rest of my review mostly involves nitpicks, not massive complaints.

I wish the ending had been structured differently. The story felt like it was dragging a bit just so the author could insert some additional sex positions.

I liked the FMC less and less as the story dragged on:

1) There is a scene where the FMC reacts to a toxic person by stooping to their level of nasty vindictiveness. The author tries to play that off as a power play victory. But really it just made my skin crawl with ickyness. The king should have simply commanded the toxic person to leave the dinner and left it at that. That would have garnered a lot more respect than toxic, childish power play games.

2) There were some heavy-handed "twists" that were partially predictable and sometimes very "preachy". The FMC's reactions to those secrets felt a bit over-the-top and annoying. She looked a bit stupid and slow at times. She was quick to blame (and assault) the men in the room, and rarely expressed gratitude. I wish some of those twists had been revealed in a sequel instead, since their fallout wasn't fully explored in this story.

3) Why in the world would the FMC insist on getting married in clothing that both she and her mate hate??!? Days earlier, she wore that clothing reluctantly so she wouldn't hurt his feelings. But on their wedding day, she is wearing that clothing DESPITE hurting his feelings. It makes no sense that she would hurt him like that. She would have worn something beautiful to make the memories of that day as dreamy as possible for both of them. She would have wanted to look beautiful for both him and for herself. And she would have likely gone shopping for a new necklace with him instead of hanging on to the trout necklace. Her spitefulness and thoughtlessness is annoying.

I wish the epilogue didn't exist at all. It removed a lot of the remaining mystery by adding cuteness I didn't need. It casually dropped a world-changing bomb without exploring it at all. What a waste.

Love, love, love this book! Can’t wait for more from this author

Truly loved the story, the world, and the characters. What an awesome read/listen. Loved the main female lead and the voices for all. In the beginning I got thrown off by the loud breathing after each paragraph…but then I got used to it. Lol. It’s hot, sexy when it needs to be, dirty when it needs to be and you can feel the yearning of young love and young adult angst. Truly a fun read!

Wonderful

It was so good. It had me go through all of these emotions and it made me finish the book and a two day timeframe. It was just so much thought into this book made it even better and hopefully we get another one.
