Publisher's summary

Seventeen-year-old Aiden can't wait for his upcoming camping trip. A week in the woods with his guy friends is the perfect escape from reality. Especially when all he's accomplished so far this summer is daydream about Susie, his neighbor and lifelong crush. When his parents hire Susie to house sit while they jet to Paris for a romantic vacation, Aiden doesn't know whether to laugh or cry at being stuck in the woods while Susie hangs out in his house.

After an unfortunate accident cuts the camping trip short, Aiden is sure he finally has the chance to win over Susie's heart. But he returns home to total chaos. Susie fell in love - with a pillow-eating Rottweiler who tore apart Aiden's house. But after one look at Susie's face, Aiden can't bear to drop the dog off at the shelter. The race is on to get the Rottweiler trained and his house cleaned up before his parents return.

And maybe, just maybe, Susie will finally see in Aiden what she sees in the rotten Rottweiler....

Wonderful coming-of-age story

Rolston's books are always delightful. Honest, open writing, and easy to identify with. This one looks and reads like a YA novel, but enjoyable for adults. A fun book. Highly recommended!

One Mean Dog!

A really great book! It has a good mixture of funny and sweet. I would recommend it for older readers because it deals with some mature subjects (especially towards the end of the book) The audiobook reader did a good job and was believable as the narrator. The issue I had with this audiobook was that at first I didn't like the way the guy who read the audiobook did some of the characters' voices (especially the female characters) but I was good with it after a bit.

An awesome coming of age story

I quickly began to enjoy the story of the boy and his friends camping trip and this book will give you a good story while reminding you of the pain of your own teenage years.

Fun book!

That cover picture should give you a hint not to take this book too seriously. No, the dog is not flying through space, hunting some meatball pizza. Maximillian is simply a stray rottweiler, as stray as can be, with the worst manners possible, a kind of mean streak and as destructive as you could imagine. His space helmet is just how they call the muzzle they have to fit him with...

That book was a fun romp with some neat rapid fire dialogues made even better by the excellent work of narrator Josh Horrowitz. Seriously, what he did on that book was much more voice acting than simple narration. Two thumbs up to him.

I also enjoyed the overal sense of humor throughout the book. Had quite a few laugh out loud moments.

Fair warning, it's not for kids, really more for young adults and older. After all, it's the story of the Summer of a 17 year old man going from childhood to adulthood, if you know what I mean... Oh, and the ending is kinda sad. At least for dog lovers.

A Coming of Age Story

A seventeen-year-old boy narrates the story. The audio book cover looks cartoony, but this is not for kids. I almost wouldn't even say it's YA. Some of the subject matter is so graphic, I would say it falls more into New Adult.

Great listen

I enjoyed listening to this book. There was some witty dialogue and the antics of the dog were also amusing and horrifying.

A nice relaxing listen

While this isn't an out of the box smash hit, I found it to be a funky little yarn. Something you take along with you on a trip to the beach, on summer vacation, or just waiting in the departure lounge for your flight to who knows where. The narrater is easy on the ears, an a great Choice for the job. So if you're a teenager, or just young at heart, then give this one a raz, I'm sure it will bring back some long forgotten childhood memories, and brighten your day. Many thanks to Andrew Rolston, Josh Horowitz, an everybody else who made this a light and breezy audio experience
