About this listen

Sometimes the truth is both elusive and conveniently irrelevant!

There’s been a burglary in a luxury high rise co-op in Manhattan: an elderly woman was assaulted in her apartment, with jewelry taken. The prime suspect is Johnny Jones, who was in the building around the same time, helping his lawyer, public defender Alan Goldman, move temporarily into the apartment of his friend, corporate lawyer Tim Wilson. But another suspect soon emerges: a look-alike intruder who got into the building through a basement door with a broken lock. The victim is suing the co-op for millions, represented by her niece, litigator Cathy Collins - Tim’s ex-girlfriend. She claims the intruder is guilty, but Tim - the president of the co-op’s board - claims Johnny is guilty; if so, the co-op isn’t liable at all, since he got into the building lawfully. See how lawyers Tim and Cathy behave oh so badly, using sex to influence Alan and A.D.A. Gina Gomez in their handling of Johnny’s case, to suit their lawsuit ends… It won’t be until the very end of this dark-comedy mystery that the question will finally be answered: which of the two suspects is guilty?

An intriguing, entertaining legal mystery.

I just finished listening to Two Suspects: A Legal Mystery. Although the plot has lots of (for me) twists and turns, it is so well written that it is still easy to follow. The narrators were very good. I am a good judge of this because I have listened to over a hundred audiobooks. Highly entertaining!

Double crosses abound!

If you enjoy legal drama in any form, you will love this book. So many twists and turns, so many crosses and double crosses that it's hard to keep track of who is stabbing who in the back!

You have a Public Defender, an Assistant DA, a highly paid lawyer in a huge firm, and an "Ambulance chaser"/Litigator all involved in what appears to be a simple burglary. The suspect, Johnny Jones, has been accused of the crime and Alan Goldman is the PD who gets the case. He believes Johnny is innocent, but is he or isn't he?

Add in the recently dissolved love affair between Cathy Collins and Tim Wilson, a possible highly profitable lawsuit and more and you have a true case of who is really the guilty party. All parties will stoop to low levels in order to get what they want and sex is a definite bargaining chip (but it's all behind closed doors). Beware: none of the characters are what I would call likeable (they are far too busy trying to outwit each other for that!), but they are entertaining.

The narrators did a good job and kept my interest level high. A fast-paced story that will entertain you and keep you wondering up until the end.

I received a copy of this Audible version of the book from the publisher and chose to review it.

what the heck????

I'm flabbergasted!! Crosses and double crosses!! Leftovers recycled!!! I was aghast at the lack of integrity and the willingness to look the other way on some matters. I'm still processing and my mind is reeling. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a good job.

Interesting!💜

I’m not sure this genre shouldn’t be classified as a mystery soap opera. There were so many, “he said, she said, they said” moments I wasn’t sure what was happening. IMO there was a lot of legal & procedural explanations that was very confusing at times. (And I worked for 15 years in a courthouse lol).
That being said, the overall story was cute with a twist.
The narration was just okay for me.
This is book 1 with an HEA and can be read as a standalone.

Let’s kill all the lawyers

Two Suspects: A Legal Mystery by Gary Sherbell is a very engaging story because of all the twists and turns. Throughout the story there are legal maneuvers then reversals, manipulations, betrayals and other unethical scenarios. I’m not sure any of the characters were likable to me but their behavior and interactions were recognizable. The narration by Nick Zane was very good.

Surprise Ending

This book was all about lawyers, clients and court proceedings. Alot of negotiations happen between prosecutor and defense lawyer indicating that lawyers decide the outcomes for their clients even if they maybe innocent. I chuckled at the outcome of events for a client and four lawyers involved.

Nick and Nora Zane voiced this book well. I didn’t hate this book but also didn’t like it.
