About this listen

Lee Child once again demonstrates his mastery of the thriller genre with an unbeatable collection of three Jack Reacher novellas and six short stories, together for the first time in one pulse-pounding collection from the New York Times best-selling author.

Too Much Time: In this original novella featuring Jack Reacher after his time in the army, Reacher finds himself in a hollowed-out town in Maine. He witnesses a random bag-snatching but sees much more than a simple crime, in a tale that leads into Lee Child's new Reacher novel, The Midnight Line.

Small Wars: Lee Child goes back to 1989, when Jack Reacher is an MP assigned to solve the cold-blooded murder of a young officer.

The telex is brief and to the point: one active-duty personnel found shot to death 10 miles north of Fort Smith. Circumstances unknown. The victim was shot twice in the chest and once in the head. A professional hit. The crime scene suggests an ambush. Military police officer Jack Reacher is given the case. He calls his older brother, Colonel Joe Reacher, at the Pentagon for intel and taps Sergeant Frances Neagley to help him answer the big question: Who would kill a brilliant officer on the fast track to greatness?

Not a Drill: Jack Reacher is on the road, hitching a ride with some young Canadians who are planning a hike through the dense forests of Maine. They part ways after sharing a hot meal, and Reacher checks out a quiet town surrounded by countryside serene enough to cool even his raging wanderlust. But not for long. First the trail is suddenly closed. Then the military police show up in force. Maybe it's a drill. Or maybe it's trouble - the kind of trouble that always finds Reacher, no matter how far he travels off the beaten path.

And for the first time on audio, additional stories featuring Jack Reacher, including "James Penney's New Identity", "Everyone Talks", "Maybe They Have a Tradition", "Guy Walks into a Bar", "No Room at the Motel", and "The Picture of the Lonely Diner".

Reacher listens to intuition

I like the writing style. I like the small unnecessary details about surroundings. I also like how stoic Reacher is. But curious. And humane.

Great Slices of Jack Reacher's World

This was the perfect listen for a long roadtrip. The episodic and self-contained nature of the collection was easy and each short story had a nice twist.

Not a Stretch for Reacher

I really enjoy Dick Hill's narration style. The stories were classic Reacher, always one step ahead of everyone else.

always a good "read"

I'm never disappointed in the Childs' books. Jack Reacher is the perfect guy guy with that bad-boy edge.

good story OK reading

While the narrator has an interesting voice, it is not the right one for these books. It was difficult to follow which character he was portraying, when he was reading background story and when he was reading dialog, what the exact emotion was supposed to be. It was also disconcerting for him not to announce the end of one story and the beginning of another. There was no break, just a continuation of the story, oops wait, this is not a change of scene but a change of title. It felt the narrator was just some guy sitting in the corner reading aloud to himself. But for a different set of stories by a different author, he could be quite good, I imagine. The stories themselves were quick Reacher stories, just the basics without the extensive background in his full novels. A quick and pleasant read for a quiet afternoon. I enjoyed them well enough.

Enjoyabale, Time flies with Reacher and Dick Hill

I could easily see these stories develpping into novels. I will nevwr grow tired of Reacher novels. short story or a novel, I love the analytical nature of Reacher and how Child places clues into the story that even whrn I am y rying to pick up on them I dont realise their importance until a little later in the story. Entertaining group of stories for thise new to Reacher and those who are not.

A different perspective of Reacher

Interesting stories showing Reacher in more common situations, not always involved in high risky ventures.
Always a pleasure to hear Dick Hill, and his exceptional versatile voice.
