Publisher's summary

There are some things in this world that can't be stopped. Like progress, a moving train, and the American Dream. When the bigwigs in Washington decide to build a transcontinental railroad to the West Coast, they need a man who's just as unstoppable to clear a path through Mexican territory. That man is Jamie MacCallister.

Jamie knows it's a tough job. The territory is overrun with Apaches. The Apaches are gunning for a fight. And the first patrol sent in by the president has already been ambushed, kidnapped, and most likely killed. Jamie knows he can't take on the whole Apache nation by himself. He needs help. He needs backup.

He needs a nonstop force of mountain-man fury who goes by the name of Preacher....

Great story, ASMR Reader

Excellent story however the reader’s basso almost mono inflected reading made it difficult to maintain your attention. My hearing deficit does not help. I hate to say this but the AI reading of the Kindle book by Alexa is better.

Enjoyable Story

A fun listen with lots of action. The narrator is perfect. I was working on my deck while listening, and it made the task easier.

Quite a fantastic story, believable, no. I liked it.

Most of my favorite characters from the preacher novels were in this one. Interesting story with two different tracks within the story weaving and crossing paths back-and-forth. Enjoyable tail.

Entertaining

What a gripping story with lots of twists and turns. I enjoyed the multiple characters in the story, and as always…..the good guys win.

One of Johnstone's more interesting novels.

Johnstone usually presents multiple villains, and lays out the ways that violence and sex motivate the story. This is another fine story of well trained heroes confronting evil characters that wreak havoc on the people around them.
I enjoy the way the characters, especially Preacher, observe the settlment of the West and the development of technology, while lamenting the loss of the original wilderness. He also lays out the variety of Native American cultures with respect and recognition of human failure among them. He consistently gives a good understanding of human malintent, virtue and heroism. I remain attracted to his stories and characters.

Great book and narrator

Wish it are longer! Otherwise a joy to listen to! I’ll have to start using real money , credits almost up on this author. Only ran into two bad books and narration so far.
