Historia
1333. Edward III is at war with Scotland. Nineteen-year-old Sir Harry de Lyon yearns to prove himself and jumps at the chance when a powerful English baron, William Montagu, invites him on a secret mission with a dozen elite knights. They ride north, to a crumbling Scottish keep, capturing a feral, half-starved boy within and putting the other inhabitants to the sword. But nobody knows why the flower of English knighthood snuck over the border to capture a savage, dirty teenage boy. Montagu gives the boy to Harry as his squire, with only two rules.

I found this book boring, and it should be identified as gay literature. Definitely not for me.

Historia
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Amazing Literature
Revisado: 05-22-23
Comparing this book to David Copperfield is a disservice, not to David Copperfield, but to this book. They may share some vague similarities, but Demon Copperhead stands on its own as monumental literature. Kingsolver is a terrific writer! Listen to this book for the sheer joy of experiencing her prose. Among other things, she writes convincingly from the perspective of a teenage boy. She even talks about some of the, uh, physical nuances of being an adolescent boy. How does she know that? Even better, she writes with a wonderful sense of humor.

Historia
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

Entertaining Homespun Philosophy
Revisado: 05-22-23
Very entertaining! Part memoir, part philosophy, part self help book; this was a very enjoyable listen. Matthew (never Matt) did a superb job with the performance of his own book, as expected, but don't expect any life-changing guidance. He just kind of observes life and tries to make the best of the bad situations when they come around. Greenlight!

Historia
On January 28, 1742, a ramshackle vessel of patched-together wood and cloth washed up on the coast of Brazil. Inside were thirty emaciated men, barely alive, and they had an extraordinary tale to tell. They were survivors of His Majesty’s Ship the Wager, a British vessel that had left England in 1740 on a secret mission during an imperial war with Spain. While the Wager had been chasing a Spanish treasure-filled galleon known as “the prize of all the oceans,” it had wrecked on a desolate island off the coast of Patagonia.

Meticulously accurate story of the viciousness of the sea and the vulnerabilities of those who sail upon it. I really enjoyed this book. Don't be put off by the negative reviews some write about the reader. He did a marvelous job! A masterful performance!

Enlightening
Revisado: 02-27-23
I read a lot of books on climate change, and this book added more facts to the increasing volume of data proving the vast human impact on our environment. If you are not convinced that we are endangering ourselves with our casual disregard of scientific warnings, this book provides indisputable evidence that our planet is quickly changing. The narrator was excellent.

Exciting and Believable
Revisado: 02-27-23
This was a very enjoyable listen. I have read many novels about naval warfare of this era, and I had my doubts about reading about the exploits of a female captain. However, under the skilled pen of this author (Scott W. Cook), the circumstances surrounding the rise of a female captain are quite believable. Furthermore, the author's extensive knowledge of sailing ships of this era lend credibility to this story. The narrator is also superb. I loved this audio novel!

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Historia
The Appalachian Trail trail stretches from Georgia to Maine and covers some of the most breathtaking terrain in America - majestic mountains, silent forests, sparking lakes. If you’re going to take a hike, it’s probably the place to go. And Bill Bryson is surely the most entertaing guide you’ll find. He introduces us to the history and ecology of the trail and to some of the other hardy (or just foolhardy) folks he meets along the way - and a couple of bears. Already a classic, A Walk in the Woods will make you long for the great outdoors (or at least a comfortable chair to sit and read in).

An Honest Reflection
Revisado: 12-21-22
Bill Bryson has an amazing ability to see the world and to write about it honestly. I have read many books about hiking the App Trail. Although interesting and realistic, none of them captured the true essence of walking through the woods every day the way Bill Bryson did. He's a real treasure and a great writer.
