CAN YOU LOVE THE DARK WHEN YOU KNOW WHAT IT HIDES?

Some things aren’t supposed to exist outside of our imagination.

Thirteen years ago, monsters emerged from the shadows and plunged Kierse’s world into a cataclysmic war of near-total destruction. The New York City she knew so well collapsed practically overnight.

In the wake of that carnage, the Monster Treaty was created. A truce … of sorts.

But tonight, Kierse—a gifted and fearless thief—will break that treaty.

She’ll enter the Holly Library … not knowing it’s the home of a monster.

He’s charming. Quietly alluring. Terrifying. But he knows talent when he sees it; it’s just a matter of finding her price.

Now she’s locked into a dangerous bargain with a creature unlike any other. She’ll sacrifice her freedom. She’ll offer her skills. Together, they’ll put their own futures at risk.

But he’s been playing a game across centuries—and once she joins in, there will be no escape …

Beautiful retelling of beauty and the beast

I loved the narration I wish she would narrate every book I read . The story was great if you liked a court of thrones and roses then you’ll love this more . It’s just set in New York so more like an urban fantasy . Great book and left me wanting to know if there will be a second book .

Good through the middle then overly complicated

At the start the thief character was interesting, and the accompanying details on planning and execution. The monster theme of creatures long around coming to light isn’t novel but the initial spin was OK. The author couldn’t leave well enough alone, and started adding twist after twist with problems that had solutions out of the blue. At each twist more powers were added, the well-used trope of a person with somewhat unusual characters discovering they were magical ran amok. To me the plot lost all coherence and it reached the point that the characters were no longer credible. Why do fey have to be Irish, and suddenly appear and prove central only at the very end of a story firmly set in New York City?

It wasn’t so bad that I gave up, but I stopped paying careful attention for the last third.

This story was exactly what I needed

The narration was good other than the men sounded weird at times unless it was Graves. I loved the plot twist at the end though you could tell it was coming, overall though I loved this story and it is a new favorite.

The details of the entire book.

I love the fact that it was room for growth in all the different characters. Wren was my favorite character in the whole book. I didn’t like the ending though. I think that it could have been more.

Great Intro to a New Series!

I love to it's introduction to a new series. I especially love strong FMCs and Kierse certainly is that. Love me a morally grey MMC and Graves gives that in spades. The story definitely kept me engrossed, trying to figure out things out. The narrator is also aces! She differentiates characters very well. I can't wait for the next book!

What a mingle of stories!

Beauty and the Beast meets Celtic mythology in modern day NYC. Pretty much sums it up.

Decent 🌶️🌶️ but pretty much no romantic relationship built. If you want Belle and Beast married at the end this isn’t the book for you.
