Acerca de esta escucha

When Nicholas Meyer was asked to direct the troubled second Star Trek film, he was something less than a true believer. A best-selling author and successful director, he had never been a fan of the TV series. But as he began to ponder the appeal of Kirk, Spock, et al., he realized that their story was a classical nautical adventure yarn transplanted into space and - armed with that insight - set out on his mission: to revitalize Trek.

I came to this book because I loved Star Trek II, The Wrath of Khan. That is but a small part in an amazing life. At various points he says things that I have to describe as words of wisdom that are things I plan on repeating when the time is right. Amazing book.

Phenominal

I bought this book when it came out and really loved it then as much as now. I attended a screening of Star Trek 4 at the Egyptian theater in Los Angles a few years ago. Specially because Nicholas Meyer was introducing the picture. He was so wonderful. And while taking some questions from the audience - a couple questions came up and I remember thinking... that’s in his book— right as Nick Meyer would answer the question by saying... I wrote about that in my book. I found him to be completely engaging and very witty. So, when this audio book became available, with Mr. Meyer reading it... I didn’t hesitate for a moment to purchase. It’s a must ready for anyone interested in the business or the Star Trek business.

Finally, someone I can relate to, spoken in a very casual way. Must listen for film enthusiasts!

Nick Meyer knows his subjects, and listening to him is a joy. Highly recommended, especially for Star Trek fans, or those who want a view of Hollywood from the '70s to the present.

Great for fans of the original Star Trek films

A lovely insider’s memoir on Hollywood and the struggles to get films made, with a lot of details on the making of the original-cast Star Trek movies.

Fascinating

Thoroughly enjoyed this read by Nick Meyer, and my only wish would have been that he would have given more behind-the-scenes stories regarding the actors in the pictures he made. He's an effective storyteller, with a rich rich history in cinema--would have loved to experience more of what he lived.

Insightful read

If your ultimate goal is to be a writer or director, why spend money on college tuition to learn about filmmaking when you can read and absorb Nicholas Meyer's book, which is filled with intimate knowledge of how movies are made. While much of the book concerns his work on the Star Trek movies he directed and/or wrote (II, IV, VI), he has a much more voluminous catalog of films that he was involved in, and he offers details about how these movies got made (or didn't). You're privy to meetings with studio heads, producers, and actors, the struggles to get things done his way, the frustrations that come when forced to capitulate on budget constraints. Meyer puts it all out there in an easily digestible memoir of his life in Hollywood.

It's a great read...and he narrates the audiobook which is even more entertaining.

EXTREMELY ENTERTAINING AND INFORMATIVE, TOO!

Nicholas Meyer is a very humble man. I'm telling you that, because you won't know that reading his book. The book drips with arrogance. But Meyer gives us all a helpful tip -- he TELLS US pride is not his problem. I laughed out loud.

A good book gets bogged down with unnecessary political meanness.

Meyer does a nice job of taking us behind the scenes for what we are all showed up for -- his Sherlock Holmes novel. You did show up to read all about his Sherlock Holmes novel, right? And his utter shock that using someone else's characters might cause copyright problems. Really, if you fought with a dead writers estate because you stole his characters and tried to make money off it -- maybe leave that out of your biography; it's not endearing.

There's plenty of Star Trek here. And plenty of Meyer. Whichever you are showing up for, you'll get a healthy dose. Enjoy, I did.
