A vampire tale for the 21st century

A fresh take on the vampire genre, it’s hard to believe this book has been available since 2008 but only got an audiobook this year.

I picked up Chadwick’s debut audiobook last year and loved his absurdist take on Mormon culture. And this book continues his style of playing the ridiculous straight. There’s no other author with his style.

Tumbleweed is compelling, funny, and wholly satisfying. It feels like a comedy version of the X-Files. And the three short stories make it a great candidate for further tales featuring these characters.

Haley Pullos’ narration is top-notch. Especially for a first timer. It was somewhat surprising to see Chadwick matched up with a well-known Hollywood actress. Hopefully we hear more of her in the future.

Entertaining

This is my second book by David Chadwick and I can only guest that all future books are going to be just as entertaining.
This was a neat spin on the good old vampire folklore. Easy, funny and witty. I enjoyed the details and also being a native Texan, I loved that it was set in East Texas.

Edit of my First Review

Dave is a craftsman. From story-telling to characters. nothing is ever out of place. To quote Adam Savage "I reject your reality and substitute my own". it follows what you would think a story of creatures of the night or what you see on the screen should be and the rules of each and gives you a wider sense of wit and charm. from family to friends, how they act is how many would and doesn't take away from the experience. it throws curve balls of creativity but engaging to keep on hearing it all fit into place like a puzzle. Never sleep on a Chadwick novel or audio book. best fun you can have.

Disappointing

This book is chock-full of bad and tired tropes, boring stereotypes, and dimensionless characters. I kept waiting for it to get better, like maybe it was a joke, someone watching cartoon or something. but no that’s just how the book is. I found it funny and ironic how the book continually rags on twilight. But it gives some of the same vibes, and not in a good way.
