Publisher's summary

The chains of Heavens were shattered. And the Azure Dragon stirs in the empire’s capital.

With the arrival of winter, Lu Jie’s workload has continued to increase. Now in charge of an entire sect, and mired in politics, he’d been expecting constant pushback from demonic beasts and yet … the demons seem to have vanished without a trace.

Left with a foreboding feeling, Lu Jie’s problems still haven’t solved themselves.

The Alchemy Halls continue to put pressure and threaten him, all the while an invite has arrived from the Jade Court, calling him to Azure city. But Lu Jie has a plan, one that can not only protect him, but change the very course of history forever.

It was time to leave his mark on the empire, once and for all.

Book three of an epic Xianxia cultivation series perfect for fans of Beware of Chicken and Cradle. The series features weak-to-strong power progression, a light scientific approach to magic, tons of alchemy, spirit beast companions, and so much more.

The lack of interpersonal relationship progress/especially romantic one's.

it's supposed to be "cultivation" but aside from the society, it feels more high fantasy. Cultivators ain't cultivating much.

it's official now I love this saga! Krazekode and Pavi Proczko take your bow!

Well it's official now. As if you couldn't already tell. I love this saga as Lu Jie is ready to make his mark on the world and changing it for ever. Again I'm reminded of the series Cradle by Will Wight as they talk about twin soles and benefits they'll gain when they do that. Lu Jie is willingly sharing his new world technology which is gonna end the stagnation and corruption that's been crippling the countryside. And of course Labby and now Ash, both Lu Jie's spirit beast's find their own path and power up!
Krazekode, Pavi Proczko Bravo! Now just don't just sit on your laurels... go write the next book.
So find the path and read this wonderful series!

Half ok, they just didn’t include the other half of the book.

I liked the continuation of the story that I have enjoyed so far, but while getting to points that an earlier book would have been quickly resolved with satisfaction from an ending instead, I’ve been prolonged and stretched, and I can feel the squeeze. Of something more than likely resembling profit over quality.

If needed to refute , compare impactful plot additions or meaningful changes with first story.
In agreement the third would even make the top 10? Thanks.

Don’t drag something good, to death. (I’m sure a person serving against their will once said)

The solid story line all throughout the series thus far. Also, the steady build up of the main character and those around him.

Loved the book! Looking forward to the next book to show the story will progress.

Another winner.

Very deeply enjoyed this series. Waiting for Labby to go all Aria Stark, lol. Author has a deft hand at keeping you pulled along and immersed in the story. Props to the narrator, brilliant work. Also, I like the alternate cultivation path.

Looking forward to 4.

Great continuing series

This book is just as great as the rest, can’t wait for number four. The progression of the characters and the expanding plot make for great reading if you like this genre

Jumping=The^Shark

The series had some good points originally - cute spirit character along with some moderately interesting interactions between the scientific method and xianxia-style cultivation. Unfortunately, in this third volume the cracks are seriously showing. For one, the overarching plot is formulaic and dull, and takes away focus from the things I previously mentioned enjoying. For two, there are just a lot of niggling annoyances that crop up as the protagonists' knowledge of technology and physics easily and rapidly change everything about this world of magic and demons - I get these whiffs of what I would describe as "smug Reddit atheist" energy. And if I'm getting irritated by that, I've gotta imagine I'm not alone since I'm personally a smug atheist, I just hardly use Reddit.

TL;DR I rated the first two volumes of the series 4/5 stars, but I lost interest in the second half of this book so fast that I quit reading out of boredom in the middle of the big climax at the end.
