About this listen

To the outside world, Electra D’Aplièse seems to be the woman with everything: as one of the world’s top models, she is beautiful, rich and famous.

Yet beneath the veneer, Electra’s already tenuous control over her state of mind has been rocked by the death of her father, Pa Salt, the elusive billionaire who adopted his six daughters from across the globe. Struggling to cope, she turns to alcohol and drugs. As those around her fear for her health, Electra receives a letter from a complete stranger who claims to be her grandmother.

In 1939, Cecily Huntley-Morgan arrives in Kenya from New York to nurse a broken heart. Staying with her godmother, a member of the infamous Happy Valley set, on the shores of beautiful Lake Naivasha, she meets Bill Forsythe, a notorious bachelor and cattle farmer with close connections to the proud Maasai tribe. But after a shocking discovery and with war looming, Cecily has few options. Moving up into the Wanjohi Valley, she is isolated and alone. Until she meets a young woman in the woods and makes her a promise that will change the course of her life for ever.

Sweeping from Manhattan to the magnificent wide-open plains of Africa, The Sun Sister is the sixth instalment in Lucinda Riley’s multi-million selling epic series, The Seven Sisters.

Addicted to finish it.

Addicted to continue reading this book. interesting parallel stories, touching true history and with a surprising end clearly spoken with a perfect intonation. Also a must read (listen) for advanced ESL students. Advice: make notes of all names on a time line, who he/she is and their roll in the stories.

Another great book in the series!

I love this series, and this book was no exception. I think the back story of Cecily, Bill, and Stella may be my favorite. Great character growth from Electra, who is not always likable. Looking forward to the last book!

Another good book by Lucinda Riley

I was hesitant to listen to this book about the 6th sister, Electra because of the negative reviews.. But I was so pleased upon jumping in to enjoy the book as much as I have the other 5. The book kept my interest, the narrators were very good, & now I'm ready to move to the missing sister. I'm eagerly awaiting the book about Pa Salt!!!

I liked hearing about life in Africa and what an inspiration the women in this book are

Loved it

At first, felt that the story was kind of repetitive, but then the plot allows your imagination to create the views of African landscapes and then it invites you to learn more about Kenya’s history during WWII and then to African—American struggle for their human rights

Could’ve done without the politics...

I liked the characters, but I felt this one was pushing a political agenda. I wanted to tell the characters, “You know you’re going to regret fawning all over that arrogant, divisive man just because of his race.” Those who are aware will understand.

Enjoying this series!!!

So far of all the books that I’ve listened to in this series, I found the speech patterns/cadence of the primary performer tiresome….how some performers can successfully speak in a natural manner and others well….just don’t is the luck if the draw! I will sometimes listen to some stories based on the performer…..
