Cozy mystery review

I struggled to finish this audiobook and could not connect with the characters. I think this is set in U.S., but male narrator sounded British. Characters also seemed British, with names like Pippa and Winky. Story opens with police detective who gets handed a case and immediately turns to group of women who run ice cream store and appead to be his only hope for solving the case. That makes the detective seem incompetent. First scene with the women is them virtually packed for vacation yet they have not - and cannot - decide on destination. This struck me as silly and implausible. It also made me wonder how well crafted the actual story would be. For the most part the action felt contrived and flat.

Given that the primary characters are female, not sure why male narrator selected.

Any additional comments?

The Ladies of the local creamery are trying to solve murder mystery.
They investigate what appears to be hunting accidents, however, they uncover something sinister
This story was just.. ok.
I've read / listened to other books by this author and they were better.

Jonathan Johns is a good narrator.

Newscast

Unfortunately the narrator took what might have been a decent book and turned it into more of a newscast. He didn't tell the story he read it at you in a newscaster type voice. I listened to about an hour of it before I couldn't take it anymore and I was not able to finish the book. From what I did listen to it's a light mystery with decent characters and the storyline was interesting. Hit the story actually been told by someone instead of presented as a newscast, I might have enjoyed it quite a bit. I receive this book at no cost from audio boom for my honest and unbiased opinion.

The gang from the creamery are back to solve murder mystery. I'm not overly fond of this book. It didn't grab me from the start, and it didn't draw me in as it progressed.

The narration was well done. The characters were excellently portrayed.

Hunting Season is Open

College kids are showing up dead on Sugar Mountain. At first glance, they appear to be hunting accidents. On deeper inspection, it appears someone has started a deadly game. Sherriff's from nearby are called in to take a look at the evidence and the Portman's Creamery ladies are brought in to help. As they continue their investigation, they begin to see a bigger picture that is quite alarming. Will they be able to get the word out before they become the hunted?

This was along the lines of a cozy mystery. I couldn't get into what was supposed to be friendly bickering and witty banter. It seemed either forced or just written badly. There was also a complete lack of atmosphere developed by the author. There should have been some suspenseful parts but the narration was very flat and businesslike and I think this distracted from the story line as well.

The narration reminded me quite a bit of Bryan Zee who does the Hellsfire series. Where the odd cadence works for that series, it didn't work here at all. There was just no attempt to perform the narration. The reading took quite a bit of enjoyment out of the listen for me. I listed on 1.5 speed.

However much I don't like to give a completely negative review, I have to be honest here and say this was a disappointing listen.

I received this audiobook for free in exchange for an honest review.

the sugar girls, sweet for your ears

THE SUGAR GIRLS.
This was my first time reading a book from this writer, and I liked it. It was the 4th book in the series, I read it as a stand alone book without reading the other books in the series. . I didn’t feel lost, or confused or anything. the writer did a great job, of catching things up if it needed to be done to make you understand what was going on, without going on and on about the other books.
I really liked the girls. They were funny and witty. This was a fast paced book, that didn’t drag on. This book is a good light read if you like mysteries. I listened to it in the car on a trip I was going on, and really helped the time fly by.
i loved the narrators voice! he did a great job. and who doesn’t love an english accent!
