Publisher's summary

There’s an old saying - If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.

Paul, a human living in a bear shifter world, and his best friend Jon get home from Alaska with an extra addition. While he’s happy for his friend, Paul can’t help the increasingly nagging feeling that things shouldn’t be as they are. And things only get worse when he finds his apartment gutted by his drug-addicted little brother.

After landing himself in a police cell for assault, Paul starts a plan to reconstruct his life. He just didn’t plan that forcing one person out would let someone else in.

Stuck in the cell next to Paul’s, McKayla contemplates how fate could have such a messed up sense of humor. Who knew she’d find a highly compatible mate in jail? After the bar fight that led to her arrest, she meets Paul through the cell bars, but their time together is both short and confusing.

Can Paul and McKayla overcome the hurdles of a human and a shifter mating? Does fate have hidden plans for the man born to the wrong species?

Paul's wish came true!

Paul is human who's been around bear shifters all his life. When he returns from his trip with his best friend he finds his apartment destroyed, addicts sprawled around, his brother passed out and his brother's girlfriend dead on the floor from an overdose. One of my two favorite parts is when he calls the cops, explains what he finds and tells them to come over because he was gonna beat the sh** out of his brother...and he did. Paul wanted to be a bear shifter for so long. He meets his mate, Makayla, in jail of all places. I won't go into any more details to avoid spoilers, but this was a really good ending to this series.

Ewwww

What in the world. I know I did not listen to the prior installments. No clue how I ended up with this one actually. But McKayla sounds like a weirdo, shows up at Paul’s workplace 30 minutes early and flips out that he forgot their date. Paul sounds a bit self important and pompous. There is no chemistry between them, so I have no idea how she decided he was her mate. She barely registered on his meter.
She was no one to him until she kissed him and even then he just wanted to have sex with her, not love her forever.
But the thing that made me turn the whole thing off was the lovemaking scene. He kept leaving copious amounts of saliva/drool wherever he kissed her and then when he went for her pussy, she was soaked down to her knees. And I imagined him kissing her and drooling all into her mouth and that was it. I turned this crap right off and that was it.
I have no idea how this book ended. It is not often I DNF books. But this one set off my gag reflex and that is never good when you are listening to a lovemaking scene.
