About this listen

Fame and money rained down on Dess Hampton like a monsoon. She couldn't imagine needing more—until her golden voice was silenced. Now her quiet days are filled with her guitar and she savors every sunrise. Curious, and as a favor to a friend, she emerges to hear a rumored superstar in the making.

Music pours out of Erika Alvarez through her voice and her fingertips. She's awed that the reclusive Dess Hampton wants to hear her sing, and then blown away when Dess agrees to sit in for a few gigs.

Dess can tell that Erika is destined for the life that she once had and wants no part of, ever again. But can the magic of the music they make together, and the growing love between them, trump Erika's ambition and Dess's fears? How much are they willing to sacrifice for it—and for each other?

Contains mature themes.

Nice story

Good story, love the romance and the age gap wasn’t that bad it was a good read.

Narrator dropping letters

Did anyone notice that Narrator drops the Gs in words like sonG and sinGinG?

Story was really good, though. Narrator was a bit distracting

The narrator seriously takes away from a good story...

The book is good, but definitely would be better to read it instead of slogging through this terrible narration. The narrator can't pronounce the "ng" at the end of words and it is extremely distracting and annoying. "Sinin" instead of singing...ugh it's terrible!!

love the story

This was an awesome book! The narration could have been better. she has a great voice, but pronounces ng as just n. The word sing or singing are used thousands of times. Seems weird to use a narrator who can't pronounce the most used words in the book. Other than that the book was great!

Stopped listening in Chapter 21

I have a new rule: I will root for mature, resilient people all day long. I will stop listening when privileged characters act like whining children who need therapy and make decisions for other people because they know better than the other person what is best for that person. No thanks. After Covid I’ve realized that I am surrounded by selfish, children and I don’t want to read about them too.

Saccharine and Treacly

Main characters just fell in love too quickly, for no particular reason. It wasn't developed, with them noticing charming things about each other. They just suddenly fell in the sack, then fell in love. The romantic tension wasn't properly built, layer by layer. Instead, it was just dropped into the middle of the room, "PLOP!" a sappy sodden mess.

Disappointing

Did not care for the narration or the story. It was a struggle to get through.
