About this listen

Wind down by escaping into nature. Part soundscape and part bedtime story, The Sleeping World is an intimate journey through ecologies around the world.

Sloths are the slowest mammals on earth. They can hardly see. They live in rainforests among jaguars, pumas, and countless other predators. Yet they survive. And they do it by being so incredibly slow, and living a life covered in algae. In this episode, we hang with a sloth in the jungle of Costa Rica as he spends a month digesting one single leaf, and we see the symbiosis and collaboration that surrounds him.

This is the world in its natural state, defined by seasons, routines, and cycles. By the time this sloth has traversed his tree and resumed his life of rest, you’ll be ready to rest too.

Loved the voice of the narrator. Soothing, calming and a lovely tone to fall asleep to.

Loved the content and story. Not scary or too dramatic so it was easy to relax.

Beautiful, incredible and completely relaxing

What a gift to each of us, directly from the Amazon rainforest and a resident sloth. Thank you so very much.

Very Calming and Educational

I really enjoy this story. I listen to them before bed, and often fall asleep to them. I also learn a lot about the animal I’m listening to. I love it! Thank you Audible!

Beautifully written and gracefully narrated!

I've listened to a few of her books and have never heard the end of any of the them. :) That's a really good thing because I use them to gently fade off to sleep while listening to soothing, calming goodness.

Hopeful and calming

I loved learning about the sloth's total rejection of survival via domination. Instead, it survives through resting and working together with other species. So hopeful. I also found this story deeply calming!

Aurally satisfying

I listened to this while trying to do some work in the office, and the rain and other background noise made it a relaxing listen. I should also add that the narrator has a soothing voice, too.

Good to distract, delight and lull you to sleep.

Well produced, great narration, not 100% on the writing, but it did get me to fall asleep, so, great job.

This would be unfamiliar information

The pacing was relaxing, and the information was interesting. The narrator’s voice was lovely and warm. The soundtrack behind the script was restful.
