Acerca de esta escucha

Summer 1924: On the eve of a glittering society party, by the lake of a grand English country house, a young poet takes his life. The only witnesses, sisters Hannah and Emmeline Hartford, will never speak to each other again.

Winter 1999: Grace Bradley, 98, one-time housemaid of Riverton Manor, is visited by a young director making a film about the poet's suicide. Ghosts awaken and memories, long consigned to the dark reaches of Grace's mind, begin to sneak back through the cracks. A shocking secret threatens to emerge; something history has forgotten but Grace never could.

Set as the war-shattered Edwardian summer surrenders to the decadent 20s, The Shifting Fog is a thrilling mystery and a compelling love story.

An alternate title for this novel is The House at Riverton.

This book took a long time for me to get into. A lot of characters introduced early and hard to keep track of throughout the book. I enjoyed the ending but the rest of the book not so much.

Long Intro with a Decent Ending

Kate Morton is a master story teller and Caroline Lee is her equal as a narrator! Fantastic is all I can say!

Love love love this book!

I like reading suspense stories where there is a complete story besides the mystery, and this book is on that level. A friend recommended Kate Morton, but she said "start with her first and move on so you will enjoy the progress of her writing." I didn't understand at first, however, after "The Shifting Fog"'s faltering in places, I think I understand. Ms. Morton gets better in her writing skill with more recent books.

The audio book was done well, but, beware when you have headphones on that the music can be shrill in your ear. Caroline Lee does an adequate job reading, but her voice is a bit too cultured for a serving maid and she uses the same accent for the upper class family.

Several times I forwarded through the narration as the story seemed superfluous at points and I never missed anything.

Although I could predict some of the story I enjoyed it so much. Grace was a fantastic character in which to see the time period through. I highly recommend!!

Great Story

I'm a fan of other Morton novels. I discovered her because I'm such a fan of Lee's narration. This story is good - though long. It's slower than her other stories, but still a great time.

Morton and Lee together is 100!

It's so rare to find a historical love story that captures & keeps my attention. Personally I am not a fan of live stories since 4th grade. Whether I truly love a book seems to be in direct correlation to how much I learn from the book. I learned a lot from this book.Englands transformation into the 20th century was felt worldwide. This book is excellent detailed representation of that change

Different historical drama

I've listened to a few of Kate Morten's books, and this was my least favorite. i just don't think the plot was well-established, the "mystery' wasn't built up enough.

Not my favorite

Where does The Shifting Fog rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Unfortunately hadn't realized "The Shifting Fog" is the same / alternate title for "The House at Riverton." Great book / wonderful narration but wish Audible had indicated that I had already purchased the same book under an alternate title.

I felt this book was a little anticlimactic compared to some of her other books. not my favorite one.
