Story
For the last several years, Penn and Kim Holderness of The Holderness Family have done the hard maintenance and the research to learn how to fight better. With the help of their marriage coach Dr. Christopher Edmonston, they break down their biggest (and in some cases, funniest) fights. How did a question about chicken wings turn into a bra fight (no, not a bar fight; a bra fight)? How did a roll of toilet paper lead to tears, resentment, and a stint in the guest bedroom?

Story
This is your wake-up call to resist the Hustle culture and embrace the slowness of Jesus. Our culture makes constant demands of us: Do more. Accomplish more. Buy more. Post more. Be more. In following these demands, we have indeed become more: More anxious. More tired. More hurt. More depressed. More frantic. What we are doing isn't working! In a society where hustle is the expectation, busyness is the norm and information is king, we have forgotten the fundamentals that make us human, anchor our lives, and provide meaning.

Story
Profanity has always been a deliciously vibrant part of our lexicon, an integral part of being human. In fact, our ability to curse comes from a different part of the brain than other parts of speech - the urgency with which we say "f--k!" is instead related to the instinct that tells us to flee from danger. Language evolves with time, and so does what we consider profane or unspeakable. Nine Nasty Words is a rollicking examination of profanity, explored from every angle: historical, sociological, political, linguistic.

Why do we so often seek out physical pain and emotional turmoil? We go to movies that make us cry, or scream, or gag. We poke at sores, eat spicy foods, immerse ourselves in hot baths, run marathons. Some of us even seek out pain and humiliation in sexual role-play. Where do these seemingly perverse appetites come from? Drawing on groundbreaking findings from psychology and brain science, The Sweet Spot shows how the right kind of suffering sets the stage for enhanced pleasure.

Joe De Sena has spent his life running toward challenge and discomfort. Why? Because how we react to challenging situations defines us and our families. The only tools we have as humans to survive the many peaks and valleys of a full life are preparedness, health, leadership, and most importantly, resilience. Why do so many parents struggle to finish things we start, delay gratification, and protect our health - and why do our kids continue to struggle in every facet of life? Because we haven’t showed them a path to resilience, and we haven’t fought for it ourselves.

From blurry vision to crooked teeth, ACLs that tear at alarming rates and spines that seem to spend a lifetime falling apart, it's a curious thing that human beings have beaten the odds as a species. After all, we're the only survivors on our branch of the tree of life. Why is it that human mothers have such a life-endangering experience giving birth? And why are there entire medical specialties for teeth and feet? In this funny, wide-ranging and often surprising book, biologist Alex Bezzerides tells us just where we inherited our achy, brilliant bodies in the process of evolution.

Publisher's summary
What is the secret to a healthy, happy, fulfilling marriage?
Nearly every marriage starts out happy, and if we're honest, nearly every marriage at some point becomes unhappy. Is there a solution? Can an unhappy marriage really get back to being happy? Can it be truly and authentically happy - even better than it was at first? Kevin and Marcia Myers, who have been married for nearly four decades and went through nearly every challenge a couple can face, emphatically say yes.
Revealing seven practices that offer help and hope for a happy and enduring marriage, The Second Happy is a captivating, practical resource that provides the tools necessary to tune up, overhaul, or even rebuild your marriage. Practices to sustain and strengthen marriage include the following:
- Breaking the quit cycle;
- Picking a fair fight so both people win;
- Keeping disagreements from escalating; and
- Removing pretense from your relationship.
Rooted in Scripture and contemporary insights from the Myers' marriage, as well as real stories from other couples, this revelatory book shows how any marriage can regain depth, meaning, and, yes, happiness.

"Over the last four decades, I've met one-on-one with thousands of men. Most of them know that Jesus promised "a rich and satisfying life" (John 10:10), but too many are confused about what that looks like. In fact, I'd estimate that 90 percent of Christian men lead lukewarm, stagnant, defeated lives—and they hate it. When men try to put into words what's holding them back, they invariably describe one or more of seven symptoms. But you can experience a powerful life transformed by Christ. I'll tell you how." But there is hope: The constant forgiveness, grace, and intervention of God can preserve and protect us from not only the world but also ourselves. D. A. and Elicia Horton explore the tension of two people becoming one and how spouses often fight over which "one of us" they become.

I leaned a ton about relationships
I am currently in the dating stage and this was very helpful as I am figuring that out. My biggest takeaway was the elephant concepts, and dealing with it will have stress but it is far less than the pain of not dealing with it. Thank you!

Actually helpful
This book was incredibly easy to listen to and provided plenty of easy to implement, real-life, clear examples and resolutions. I enjoyed the audio book so much and found it so helpful, I'm ordering a physical copy to read and take notes in. Didn't feel judgy like other marriage books. Didn't "beat a dead horse" with endless repetition.

Worth a Read for anyone at any point of your relationship
The book offers a different outlook then what society teaches. You’re able to listen to the authors’ stories and views, while being able to intertwine some of these practices. I have to say that I am a bit wiser when approaching conversation and more optimistic when we do disagree.

Too religious for my taste but really good advices
It’s very religious and for me was very hard to listen to. I have to say that apart of this there are good advices. I think should be better indicated by audible the category of book

Religious
This is a Christian book but that wasn't very clear from the product details. The tips are also not applicable to non Christians. Unfortunately I can't return it because I bought it on sale.

Unbearable Narration
More evidence that authors should not perform their own work. Any useful information is subsumed by the sickly sweet ain’t we cute narration. After a couple of hours I pulled the plug.

TOO RELIGIOUS, SHAME ON AUDIBLE
I really had a hard time following as the narrator (authors) kept saying "let God do it" kind of phrases
I would love to get a refund but I purchased the book on discount, big mistake.
I don't have an issue with spirituality nor do I have an issue when books intermittently reference a higher power. However, this book might as well be a 2nd bible.
Horrible to listen to, and I'm only half way thru, I may not finish it.
