About this listen

Convinced they are the victims of a sick, practical joke, Heidi and her three friends are resigned to spending the night at The Scarry Inn, even though the atmosphere is anything but welcoming. Surely the owners, Dick and Thelma Scarry, are simply trying to drum up business for their new motel by terrifying the guests.

But when Kara is found brutally murdered, they realize the danger is real, and they must find their way to safety before the secrets of the inn claim another victim. Making things even more difficult is the lack of cellphone service in the small town of Frighton, Arizona. With no clue who they can trust, the remaining threesome are now caught up in a fight for their lives.

OK

The Scarry Inn. Is an OK read/listen, personally I found it to be more a YA book. The story line is good and the narration is also good. But the teenage characters are just annoying. Teenagers often are and maybe this wasn't the perfect choice for me. I prefer darker novels.

Oddly light for a horror story...........

The Scarry Inn is a horror story, but I found it oddly and pleasantly light for the genre. This story takes place over Christmas Eve/Christmas morning during a dangerous snow storm in Frighton, Arizona. Heidi, Cara, Beau and Alex are four high school students driving from California to Flagstaff to spend Christmas with Heidi's estranged father. They experience car trouble in Frighton and end up spending the night at the Scarry Inn, a small motel run by Dick and Thelma Scarry. Through a wonderful use of foreshadowing and excerpts from various secondary characters to move along the story, the author gives these four teens an incredibly scary night, ending in multiple deaths. I had an inkling about mid-way through the book what was actually happening behind the scenes, and the ending proved my guess correct. However, it was a very interesting trip to get to that resolution. Although I am not always a fan of books with teens, I found these four kids very resourceful given their age and the frightening circumstances, and I was definitely rooting for them to survive their ordeal intact.

Joey Eugene's narration was excellent. He did well with both male and female voices as well as mature and teenage voices. Other than a few mis-pronounciations, I enjoyed his narration and would listen to him again. Overall, this was a very enjoyable audiobook experience.

Fun, Scary Read

Way to build suspense! Glad it all came together in the end. who would have thought to put fear and Christmas together.

The Scarry Inn

The story is pretty good, though I came close to stopping the audible more than once. I have never listened to so many characters, which was all of them, whine so much.

I enjoyed the voice of the narrator, except for the character voices for which there was to much whining.

I was provided a copy of this audible free. The opinions in this review are mine and given freely.

Had me guessing

I had no idea what was really happening at the Scarry Inn. Don’t listen at night alone? The narration was great he really brought the story to life

Great Story

This is an awesome story of four teens who are forced to stay at The Scary Inn. They don't know if the fears they experience are real or staged. Are their lives in danger or will they all get out alive. That's what I wondered through out the book, however, the outcome isn't what I expected. I loved it!

Great story

I enjoyed the plot and idea of a group getting stuck and thrust into a bad situation. What I didn’t like was that I felt it took too long to get to the part I was interested in. Once we get to the interesting part that really captures my attention, it ended. I would like to see less build up and more bang when the story gets really good.

GREAT STORY :)

Don't stop in Frighton!
Whatever could become of a group of teens who stop in a small town due to car trouble?
A whole lot, that's what!
Enjoyed both writing and narration, a very pleasant experience :)

They are pretty resourceful considering their age and situation, and it's quite a tale from beginning to end.
Really enjoyed it, full of suspense and scary stuff!
I'm now starting the second in the series, and looking forward to it!

Good But Could Have Been "Scarrier"

I received this book for free. I am voluntarily leaving this review and all opinions expressed herein are mine.

This is the first book in The Scarry Inn series. It is a standalone story with no cliffhanger ending.
The story is billed as horror but it is tame enough for the YA audience.

Here, four teenagers are traveling to Flagstaff, AZ to spend Christmas with one of the teen's estranged father. Their car develops some mechanical issues and it's snowing pretty heavily so with no choice, they exit the freeway at Frighten to leave their car with the mechanic. The shop is closing so the owners of the shop suggest they stay at a nearby inn for the night, which is owned by their relatives. Odd things begin to happen as soon as they check in. It's unclear whether it's a practical joke given the inn's name - Scarry Inn in the town of Frighten - or is there something more to it?

I enjoyed the story - there were some good tension filled moments but for me, it wasn't scarey enough. But this is a minor complaint as it moved along at a good pace, the teens are pretty resourceful considering their age and circumstances, and their actions seemed believable.

The narrator was very good. He did voices for all of the different characters - both young and ... ahem... older. His pace was great and he was able to ratchet up the tension of the story through his narration.
