About this listen

He loved her beyond anything and everything - precisely why he couldn't ever marry her.

Love - sentimental drivel for insipid, weak, feckless fools.

A wounded hero.

Since an explosion ravaged Captain Morgan Le Draco's face and cost him his commission in the Royal Dragoons, he's fortified himself behind an impenetrable rampart of cynicism and distrust. Now destitute and shunned by the very society that once lauded his heroics, he's put aside all thoughts of marrying and having a family. Until he risks his life to save a drowning woman. At once, Morgan knows Shona's the balm for his tortured soul, but as a wealthy, titled noblewoman, she's too far above his humble station and can never be his.

Love - a treasured gift reserved for those beautiful of form and face.

An intrepid wallflower.

Scorned and ridiculed most of her adult life, Shona, Lady Atterberry believes she's utterly undesirable and is reconciled to spinsterhood. She hides her spirited temperament beneath a veneer of gauche shyness, until a strapping, scarred stranger saves her life, and she can't deny her immediate, powerful, and sensual attraction to him. Despite how ill-suited they are and innuendos that Captain Le Draco is a fortune-hunter, she cannot escape her growing fascination.

Two damaged souls searching for love.

Others are determined to keep them apart, and Shona is goaded into placing a wicked wager. One that sets her upon a ruinous path and alienates the only man who might have ever loved her. Is true love enough to put their pasts behind them, to learn to trust, and heal their wounded hearts?

Caution: This audiobook contains one devilish, seemingly irredeemable rogue, an on-the-shelf wallflower who dabbles in wicked wagers, an unexpected and most enticing swim in a lake, a villainess you’ll want to shove into said lake, and a cast of captivating secondary characters with their own tantalizing romantic tales.

enchanting story

This is a wonderful story and Stevie Zimmerman is a fascinating narrator. Lady Shona Atterbury is by far one of my favorite heroines in the Wallflower Series. Scottish by birth, Shona is not your typical beauty. She is slightly overweight and unpretentious. When she is rescued by Captain Morgan Le Draco at a house party, she finds the man she has hoped for. Draco has been seriously injured in an explosion and has scars and a missing eye. Can two damaged souls find love? This is a lovely story and I was enchanted by Ms Zimmerman's narration. Highly recommend.

Loved this Story!

Collette has a wonderful way with her words that flow beautifully. A wager that brought on a wonderful fun surprise. Stevie’s narration of it brought me right beside the characters and I imagined I was watching it live.

How Could She Dare Do Such a Daring Thing?

Abused, reviled and ridiculed all her life, shy Shona didn't dare do anything except keep to herself and sneak away from people when she could. When forced to attend social functions, she tried to make herself as invisible as possible. Now she was ignored by the ton and high society. But soon she would come of age and could retire to her Highland home.

Then came the house party that would be her release. Her twenty-first birthday would free her of London and she would go home. Except when fleeing a fortune hunter, she trips on a tree root and falls into the lake. Rescued by Morgan, a man, physically as scarred as she was emotionally, she finds herself more daring and less reticent and fearful. After being ridiculed by some harpies of the ton, she makes up her mind to change. Then she makes the wager. Will she win the wager? Let's hope so, and what was that wager?

An engaging story

This was a very entertaining read with amusing banter. The two main characters, Shona and Morgan, both had a dreadful parent and had suffered as a result. Both of them were made to feel there was something wrong with their physical appearance. The interaction between them was very engaging. It was pleasing to see Shona develop and come into her own. I have listened to the narrator, Stevie Zimmerman, on a number of occasions and she never fails to bring the characters to life by using different voices.
I receive a copy and voluntarily reviewed it. This is my honest review.

Two wounded souls

Some scars are not visible. A wounded, scarred soldier and a woman abused by her mother meet when he saves her from drowning. But he has nothing and she has a title and money. She becomes determined to make him see they belong together. I received a complimentary audio and I am voluntarily giving a review.

Wicked Wager

Shona, Lady Atterberry and Captain Morgan Le Draco are brought together at a house party at the Wimpleton’s country home, when Shona, trying to escape an obnoxious would-be suitor, falls in the lake and Morgan rescues her. From here Shona and Morgan embark on a sometimes humorous, somewhat uncertain, and totally endearing journey toward a happily ever after.

The characters in this story are wonderful, and Stevie Zimmerman gave them voice and personality. Two wounded souls who want to find a true love, friends who are supportive, and cruel villains who need to be taught good lesson. The love-at-first-sight story keeps the reader involved, with fingers crossed, from the moment our hero and heroine meet right to the end of the story.

Oh, and the wicked wager? Shona wagered one of the “mean girls” that she would kiss the most attractive man at the party – and she did! Listen and enjoy.

A fun read.

This story is GREAT!
I listened to this story over two days while I was working in the kitchen and the reader (Stevie Zimmerman) and the story kept my attention and interest.
The story had enough twists and information that I never lost interest.
Thank you Collette Cameron for two days of fun.
