One of my favorite(s)

I’m working my way through all of Agatha Christie’s novels this year and had forgotten how wonderful they truly are. I think this one is my favorites, despite the face that there are 10 chapters before Poirot shows up. The story is, as with all of Christie’s books, well written, with multi-faceted characters. While the crime is of course front and center, it is Poirot’s relationships with the other characters that I like so much. The narrative also has all the elements of the classic mystery novel of the early 20th century: murder, robbery, wealth, love affairs, greed, the French Riviera, and train travel. One cannot help but be swept up in it all. If you can only read a few of the Poirot books, this is one you must read.
