Publisher's summary

When the legal system fails to convict an abuser, what do you do?

Meet Assistant District Attorney Lettie Portman, a sex-crimes prosecutor whose past demands justice. When a 14-year-old girl is savagely attacked by her mother's live-in boyfriend, Lettie is called to the hospital. There, she meets a sweet young girl whose only goal is to go to school and come home to a safe environment. But mom's boyfriend makes the girl's world anything but safe. Soon, the abuse gets worse, and Lettie, the prosecutor, goes to the grand jury with the case. Two juries later, the abuser is still loose on the streets.

Lettie is no stranger to abuse. She takes matters into her own hands.

Will Lettie's own past interfere with her prosecution of what should be San Diego's Most Wanted? Will she be able to make peace with her own abuse and move on to become the hard-hitting prosecutor the young girl deserves right now? Is hope on the horizon?

Great read

Loved this book. It offered a plot that was always evolving and a cast of characters that were believable , rational, and sincere.

great potential, poor timeline

The timeline was inconsistent, Intense situation, implied elapsed time, then refer to only days.

Good

I really like the narrator. The story is disjointed. Lettie has her own issues going on that have nothing to do with the main story.

My new favorite legal thriller!

So glad Ellsworth took up writing. This legal thriller is packed full of enough legal details and suspense that this book moves along quickly. Keep a snack and refreshment with you because you won’t want to stop reading to take a break.

Captivating!

Outstanding story, great drama, it was like watching a movie. Kept you wanting to hear the story straight through. If this is book one I can’t wait for book two.

Fast paced, held my attention

The ending seemed rushed to resolution. The narrator made this story come to life, she did an awesome job.

Good.. but

This was a good book. Kept me interested from the beginning until she continued to prosecute and have coffee after her son went missing? I thought maybe I missed something and it was a flashback? But no. Just didn’t seem plausible.
