Publisher's summary

She takes the same train every day. But this is a journey she’ll never forget. The Passenger is a stunning psychological thriller with a nerve-shredding climax. Perfect for fans of Mark Edwards, K.L. Slater and Miranda Rijks.

Amanda is a hardworking single mum, completely focused on her job and her daughter, Louise. She’s been saving for years, and now, finally, she can afford to give up work and chase her dream. But then, on her commute home from London to Brighton, she meets a charming stranger - who seems to know everything about her. He delivers an ultimatum. She needs to give him the code for the safe where she keeps her savings before the train reaches Brighton - or she’ll never see Louise again. Convinced that the threat is real, Amanda is stunned, horrified. She knows she should give him the code, but she can’t. Because she also knows there is a terrible secret in that safe which will destroy her life and Louise’s, too....

well-written and well narrated

Remember this is fiction, and this makes for a good story. If you analyze it in terms of would people really do this or that, maybe these things are not likely to happen, but this is in the imagination. And actually some of the plot elements really do happen. (No spoilers here.)

Keeps the interest going from the start, and continues as it goes.

Both narrators were excellent! They brought the interesting characters to life.

Most importantly the ending ties it all up so well in this story.

Of the four books I've listened to on Audible by this author, this and the Intruder were the two best.

Great read

Story was really well done. I really didn’t care for the daughter who felt entitled and selfish. At seventeen she should have had a job and not leaching off of her Mother. Of course the mom didn’t have very good parenting skills either, allowing her daughter to talk back at her so disrespectfully.

Fast paced, and throughly entertaining

I enjoyed this story and was entertained from beginning to end. I like the mother daughter aspect of this, and seeing their relationship shift and change. I also enjoyed the multiple different POVs as it added to the depth of the story and in turn had me more invested. This is fast paced from the beginning and it stays that way throughout the story. Highly recommend.

Who is who🤔

I had a really hard time figuring out who the parent was in this story. As a parent the teenage daughter grated on my last nerve. It was an interesting listen nonetheless.

Good story w/ some room for improvement w/ SPOILER.

Very good story from a great author. However, I could think of 2 alternative plots/endings which may have landed better….

SPOILER:

1. Amanda could have attempted to split stranger and James up by saying to stranger on the train “ how do you know James won’t run with the money”, then going with stranger back to her home and tag team with Lou.

2. Lou could have killed James when he was taking the belongings from the safe.

Just some other ideas 🙃

Not his best but not his worst

I’ve only recently started listening to Daniel Hurst’s books and I like that they’re short and thrilling and twisty. That said, this one had some interesting twists and kept me entertained. Recommend 4 out of 5.

Entertaining

I found this a bit bland but definitely entertaining. The narrator really made the story more enjoyable

So imaginative

Without spoiling the story, survival skills and resilience tested to the highest. I loved it. You won’t be able to put it down
