He thinks his secret is safe. But she knows the truth....

My husband is a doctor. He’s smart and charming, and everybody trusts him. Except me.

On the surface, it looks like I have it all–the perfect marriage, the perfect husband, the perfect life. But it’s far from the truth.

Doctor Drew Devlin is not the respectable figure he makes out to be. The reason we moved to this beautiful, old property with a gorgeous view of the sea was because we needed to put our past behind us. It should’ve been a fresh start for us both.

Except I’ve discovered my husband has been lying to me again. He’s using the power he has in his job to mess with people’s lives and to get exactly what he wants–no matter who it hurts.

But he’s underestimated me. I’ve had plenty of time, in this big, isolated house, to think about all of his mistakes.

And my husband has no idea what’s about to happen next....

From the number one best-selling author of The Passenger, an absolutely gripping psychological thriller packed with jaw-dropping twists that will keep you listening late into the night. If you love Behind Closed Doors, Gone Girl, and The Housemaid, you’ll be hooked on The Doctor’s Wife.

Here’s the thing….storyline was interesting, the book was just the right amount of time without all the extra descriptions but I didn’t like a single character! They were all low life’s for one reason or another so there was no one to cheer for. Then what happens….it’s a sequel and I’ve already downloaded the next book. I’m hoping there is at least one person with redeeming values. If not, I might have to skip more titles from this author.

On the fence about this one

I love that the author keeps me on my toes! Who would've thought that a good doctor could be so corrupt! I highly recommend this book as it will leave you turning the pages well after your normal bedtime.

I know when I pick up one of Daniel Hurst’s books, I am in for a fast-paced twisty ride, so imagine my surprise when he lulled me into a slow burn marital drama instead of a twisty thriller. But don’t worry, it all picked up part way through and kept me on my toes. I’ve read quite a few of his books and I liked this change of pace. While I saw the very last twist coming, there were a few that caught me off guard. I have to say I’ve read a few books lately that you don’t have to wait for the twist at the end. You never know where they might happen and I think that’s a plus.

You don’t read his books for the loving characters, so don’t get put off by the unlikeable couple at the center of this. Once things start to happen, you are invested to know the outcome. Not too many details here so as to not spoil anything but trust me you’ll want to know. Their dual narration allows you to know both sides of their marital woes. And at times it seems like Fern is telling you the story as a friend.

I was both listening and reading the book, as time permitted, and I thought both Sarah Durham and David Wayman did an excellent job bringing Fern and Drew to life.

I think of the author’s books as part of the popcorn thriller genre that aren’t too long, move quickly and keep you guessing. If you love that in a book, you should pick this one up.

Couldn’t stop listening

Decent story, kind of riveting. I didn’t care for the ending. Should have continued more That as my biggest complaint

It was ok

Ok, so listened to the book, so it wasn't really a page turner. But I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. There were so many twists and turns. I had idea where the author was taking us. I will listen to more of Daniel Hurst's books. I didn't want it to end.

Interesting story just when by you think you know what’s going to happen , you don’t!!!
I just found the narrators voice very grating .

This was the first time I listened to anything by this author. It was very good, held my interest from the beginning and now I’m going to start on Book 2 of the series The For’s Wife.

My first book by this author.

Drew thinks his secret is safe, but his wife knows what he's done. She's agreed to uproot her life and makes the move that he requested of her. Little does he know that his wife has a secret of her own.
This book is really good. This is my first Daniel Hurst book and I loved it. Definitely a must read.

Very good!

**Possible spoilers here**

Everyone was guilty in this story. Murder is never justified, of course. But Drew was a criminal in his own right. Not only was he a “cheater” in his marriage, but he also cheated on exams to qualify to become a doctor in the first place. He’d prescribed medications that led to a patient’s death. And now he committed malpractice when Rory came to him for a consultation when he disposed of the vial of blood and delayed getting him to a specialist he believed Rory needed urgently. He even told Alice about it, and said it would be easier for them if something happened to Rory, Alice was complicit by saying nothing to try to stop him.

Also, there was criticism in how Fern got angry when she found out Drew wasn’t faithful. How was she supposed to react??

Rory himself ultimately turned against Fern.

None of this justifies Fern’s criminal actions, but it seems “Roger” doesn’t seem to realize that his friend Drew has committed plenty of crimes of his own. He just doesn’t have the whole picture.

All that being said, I will probably listen to the 2nd book to see what happens next, because it is a good story.

Both narrators were excellent and captured the characters perfectly.

The perfect murder(s)?
