About this listen

A wave of refugees has arrived on the Sicilian coast, and Inspector Montalbano and his team have been stationed at port, alongside countless volunteers, to receive and assist the newcomers.

Meanwhile, Livia has promised their presence at a friend's wedding, and the inspector, agreeing to get a new suit tailored, meets the charming master seamstress Elena Biasini. But while on duty at the dock one late night, tragedy strikes, and Elena is found gruesomely murdered.

Between managing the growing crowds at the landing, Montalbano delves into the world of garments, in the company of an orphaned cat, where he works to weave together the loose threads of the unsolved crimes and close the case.

It will keeping guessing

Great plot--the resolution is quite satisfying. Characters are well written. The narrator, GGardner, is one I've listened to before. He's great although he has a qirk of all the making lower level sound like they're from Brooklyn. I find it endearing.

Andrea Camilleri is a master at story telling

There isn't a book of Andrea Camilleri that I'm not amazed at his skill in story telling. Solving the mystery of the murder of a very accomplished and quite beautiful tailor is somewhat difficult for Salvo Montalbano chief inspector of Vigata. But, using his experience and insightful brain for details he once again discovers who murdered the beautiful tailor. Sorry the story is over. One day I would like to sit in a trattoria with Salvo and join him in a whisky. That's how well I feel I know this character. Enjoy another wonderful book by the great Italian writter, now deceased, Andrea Camilleri.

Brilliant!

law-enforcement, Sicily, situational-humor, verbal-humor, murder-investigation, translated, refugees, angst

Montalbano's at the end of his wits and the whole team is exhausted by endlessly long nights of dealing with hundreds of refugees from Tunisia and other African nations each night for days on end in addition to their daytime issues. To top it off, his longtime girlfriend expects him to have a special suit tailored for an event with one of her friends and tells him just who is the person for the job. She is a kind and gentle woman with a small staff and a very accommodating manner. Until she is brutally murdered. So Montalbano leaves the wharf duties to his overworked staff and diligently pursues all the frayed threads of the case. Another excellent work translated by the inimitable Steven Sartarelli and interpreted by narrator Grover Gardner.

Very enjoyable

Particularly liked this one - will be sad when the series ends. Seemed mellower than some of the earlier books. The illegal immigration theme failed to tie in to the other story, but is a heartfelt exposition by the author on the exploitation of the desperate.

Not the best of the series.

The unnecessary inclusion of the comments on EU and the refugees was out of place and since the writing have been proven wrong. This one lacked the wonderful humor Mixed with tragedy combination prevalent in earlier books. Good but not great.

Love-able relatable characters

I liked the Inspector! And I liked the setting in Italy combined with a fast-paced mystery with likable characters- well except for the villain.
