About this listen

In the wake of a catastrophic terrorist attack on a beloved American icon, Walt Disney World, the President vows “never again”. A new covert government anti-terrorist group is established, buried deep inside the National Security Agency. Its mission – stop the next terrorist attack before it happens. Their remit is to do whatever it takes, and there are no rules. Frightening new technologies are leveraged to spy on terrorists and everyday citizens alike in pursuit of public safety. And the government deploys a new and deadly offensive weapon against terrorists operating on US soil - a domestic strike drone disguised as a civilian aircraft to mask its mission.

Joseph Michael Barber, the CEO of his own security firm, Orion Bellicus, is drawn into the government’s web of deceit and incompetence when he is asked to investigate the deaths of a dear friend’s wife and children during a botched terrorist attack near Detroit, Michigan. Barber, the son of a Vietnam-era Navy sniper and a former special forces operator himself, will draw on all of his skills, training and the enormous smarts of the people working for him at Orion Bellicus to untangle the web. What he finds is astonishing and beyond his worst fears.

Mistakes are made, innocent people are murdered, and the Constitution gets shredded as the new government agency becomes more focused on plausible deniability and self-preservation than protecting the American people.

From the distant mirror of the Vietnam delta to the Middle East; from South America to San Francisco; and from mainland China to Washington DC, The Orion Affair delivers heart-pounding action ripped from today’s headlines.

Gripping, on a par with Clancy and Grisham.

From the first chapter, this quickly becomes one of those books you can’t put down. Storyline is believable, especially in today’s environment. Would highly recommend!!

A First Rate Political Thriller

A great combination of political intrigue and overreach combined with exciting military action. Realistic scenarios of government surveillance gone too far, a president seeking to maintain secrecy about covert actions, and ordinary Americans caught in the middle. The next Tom Clancy?

A gripping spy/thriller!

Tosh and Romick deliver again! If you like Tom Clancy you will love this book!. the writing is splendid and full of detail with a mixture of fiction and stories ripped from today's headlines. The narrator's performance is top-notch delivering the dialogue in a gripping fashion that does not detract or distract from the story. This is the second book I have listened to from this Duo and would highly recommend them.

Worst audio performance ever

The robotic voice used for this book was horrible. This reader/computer should not be used again!

It's ok

The performance was pretty awful and the author clearly had no desire to keep his personal political views out of the story. otherwise it wasn't bad.

Painful narrator

I’m not really sure how I managed to get through this many hours. It was by far the worst narration I’ve ever heard since listening to classmates in junior high.

But, I continued to listen. His regular voice for the main character is fine. It was all the other accents that we’re hard to listen to.

The book is beyond the pale as far as suspension of belief is concerned. Make sure you are prepared beyond belief to accept what occurs.

I kept going because I do like a few of the characters. And I am going to give this a shot in the future for other books. Just reading them and not listening if it’s the same narrator.
