About this listen

Three women who seemingly have nothing in common find that they're involved with the same man in this smart new rom-com by Beth O'Leary, best-selling author of The Flatshare.

Siobhan is a quick-tempered life coach with way too much on her plate. Miranda is a tree surgeon used to being treated as just one of the guys on the job. Jane is a soft-spoken volunteer for the local charity shop with zero sense of self-worth.

These three women are strangers who have only one thing in common: They’ve all been stood up on the same day, the very worst day to be stood up—Valentine’s Day. And, unbeknownst to them, they’ve all been stood up by the same man.

Once they've each forgiven him for standing them up, they are all in serious danger of falling in love with a man who may have not just one or two but three women on the go....

Is there more to him than meets the eye? Where was he on Valentine’s Day? And will they each untangle the truth before they all get their hearts broken?

Critic reviews

“With thoroughly likable characters—even Joseph becomes appealing—this plot-driven novel is fast-paced and engaging throughout. Full of both humorous and heart-wrenching moments, the novel is packed with the perfect mix of contradictions to keep it engaging... An expertly plotted romantic surprise about self-forgiveness and second chances.”—Kirkus Reviews

“The attention to detail adds depth to each character—even Joseph will win readers over—and the twisty plot keeps readers both guessing what will happen next and rooting for happy endings across the board. This is a knockout.”—Publishers Weekly, starred review

“O‘Leary’s latest feel-good romp involves three women, each stood up by the same man on Valentine’s Day. Secrets are uncovered, relationships are tested and happiness is found in unexpected ways.”—The Washington Post

Crazy twist

I thought I hated this book for a moment and then I loved it. I’ve loved everything Beth O’Leary has written!

Good but wanting more (minor spoiler included)

Beth O'Leary is one of my new favorite authors, primarily bc her characters are so real and endearing. The details and depth of feeling she brings into them are truly special. And the audio readers are always fantastic!
I liked all three main characters (POVs) in this book, but bc the narrative investment is spread out between them (*spoiler* and deliberately full of misdirection), I didn't feel as attached. Another of Ms. O'Leary's gifts is portraying emotional trauma and its labyrinths. As I finished, I found myself wishing this had somehow been two different books so that I could connect with everyone more, including the wonderful side characters (Aggie!).

Beth O’Leary does it again

Another winner from a stellar storyteller. Beth O’Leary’s books balance the hard and the joyous, the poignant and the gentle, all the while introducing us to flawed-but-ultimately-good characters who feel like friends by the end. This is an author in her creative prime and we are lucky to get to experience her work. The No Show for me is right up there with The Flatshare and The Switch as books I’ll read (or listen to) over and over. Fantastic narration on this one, too!

Excellent book but probably better for reading than audible

This book, once completed, is truly fabulous. I was left thinking that the format is likely much better for reading plan for audible because of the constant transition between characters in time.

One of my favorites!

You won’t regret purchasing this book. It’s my favorite book so far this year! I never reread books, but I’d consider it.

Twists and turns- wonderful!

I absolutely adored this audiobook. I love the multiple narrators and the story is so well thought out and well written. I loved listening to everything unfold. A must listen! Another great gem from Beth O’Leary!

Different and yawn.

I read many books a year and this was a difficult read for me. I had a difficult time following the timeline and so much back and forth. I wasn’t able to keep focused and remained disconnected through the entire book. Yes, twists etc but overall it was just ok for me.

Emotionally charged book!

I loved it but I'm so sad Siobhan didn't get her happy ending. Beautifully written.

Lovely!

Skip the spoilers, skip the book jacket blurb and just enjoy a wonderful story. It has lots of twists and turns. I fell in love w 4 main characters. Very satisfying ending.

Big disappointment.

There’s virtually no plot to this book. Or, maybe there’s one that could have wrapped up in 4 chapters.
Biggest disappointment are the characters; no connection with the reader, little to no reason to care about them. And, it’s a deceiving cover, there’s nothing fun about this story.
Great performances, despite. (Luke Thompson narrates for only a few minutes at the end)
