About this listen

From communication expert Jefferson Fisher, the definitive book on making your next conversation the one that changes everything

No matter who you’re talking to, The Next Conversation gives you immediately actionable strategies and phrases that will forever change how you communicate. Jefferson Fisher, trial lawyer and one of the leading voices on real-world communication, offers a tried-and-true framework that will show you how to transform your life and your relationships by improving your next conversation.

Fisher has gained millions of followers through short, simple, practical videos teaching people how to argue less and talk more. Whether it’s handling a heated conversation, dealing with a difficult personality, or standing your ground with confidence, his down-to-earth teachings have helped countless people navigate life’s toughest situations. Now for the first time, Fisher has distilled his three-part communication system (Say it with control, Say it with confidence, Say it to connect) that can easily be applied to any situation.

You will learn:

  • Why you should never “win” an argument
  • How to assert yourself and communicate with intention
  • How to set boundaries and frame conversations
  • Why saying less is often more
  • How to overcome conflict with connection

The Next Conversation will give you practical phrases that will lead to powerful results, from breaking down defensiveness in a hard talk with a family member to finding your own assertive voice at the boardroom conference table. Your every word matters, and by controlling how you communicate every day, you will create waves of positive impact that will resonate throughout your relationships to last a lifetime.

Everything you want to say, and how you want to say it, can be found in The Next Conversation.

Must read

This is one of the most impactful books I’ve read this year. I read the physical copy and also listened to it on Audible, 5 stars both ways. “Let your breath be your first word” will be with me forever. Thank you, JF.

Easy to follow and incredibly helpful

I've been a fan of Jefferson Fisher since first coming across his channel on FB. This book provides more context to his advice (then a quick, but also helpful video) and allows the reader to better understand his suggested approaches for communication. I'm so thankful for his contributions.

110% Recommended. You will not regret this purchase.

This is by far the single best communication book I have ever read, and I have read many on this subject as I work in the business of highly escalated communication AND have a complicated personal life. Jefferson Fisher has a very impressive habit of under promising while over delivering. This book managed to be an entertaining read while at the same time giving you Actionable Tools to immediately use in your next potentially difficult conversation. This book is a must read. Thank you for writing it Jefferson. 5 Stars is an understatement for this book.

Must listen on Audible

This book is stellar. Jefferson’s thoughts, perspectives, and analyses of different conversations and techniques is superb. I initially planned to get the print version of this book, but am so glad I opted for the Audible version. Jefferson is a master communicator. Hearing him narrate his own book, incorporating all of what he is saying into his own narration, is next level. This book is so good, it deserves a second listen. Well done.

Honest and sincere

I loved that this book is written based on personal experience. Jefferson brings real life examples from both his personal and professional life to demonstrate the effectiveness or ineffectiveness of different types of communication. The methods to improve communication are simple to implement into personal practice immediately in your next conversation. As an easily triggered communicator I truly appreciated the clear guidance on how to manage my emotions, my breath and my manner of speaking to keep a conversation from going in the wrong direction. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to have better conversations that deepen relationships rather than win arguments.

Honest and well put

This is an excellent book that everyone should hear/read. If we could all learn these communication skills the world would be a more honest place.
