Publisher's summary

Finally, a calming pregnancy book that cuts through the noise to tell expectant mothers exactly what they need to know - and what they can stop obsessing about and over-researching.

In The New Rules of Pregnancy, two leading OB-GYNs guide you, the modern pregnant woman, through all aspects of pregnant life in an easy-to-digest, compassionate, and motivating way. Instead of a detailed week-by-week look at your baby’s development, it’s all about you and how to help your pregnancy go as smoothly as possible. It assumes an intelligent, busy listener (who, somewhere inside, is shouting, “Just tell me what to do!”). Every aspect of pregnant life is covered - from the practical details (how to fly pregnant) to the complex issues (“What makes it postpartum depression?”).

The book also covers that critical “fourth trimester” - “Nursing” and “How to Feel Like Yourself Again” - because once the baby is born, self-care typically goes out the window, and you really need someone to have your back. Its strong point of view and expertise come from gynecologist Adrienne Simone and obstetrician Jaqueline Worth - two renowned New York doctors dedicated to bringing patients the safest, calmest, least invasive pregnancies possible. The book’s voice - motivating, supportive, real - comes from Danielle Claro, coauthor of The New Health Rules.

helpful start up for the basics. currently 22 weeks

it was a great listen, covered a lot of basics and gave me a good foundation of info to work with while doing other research.
i’ll listened at 1.5 speed, worth the listen, while driving and doing tasks/ working out.
will most likely give it a second listen. thanks!

No-nonsense, straight to the point good advice

I'm a childbirth educator and birth doula in NYC and I'm a big fan of Dr. Worth's, having attend a birth with her and a number of continuing ed events with her as well.

This book is very good but isn't for everyone (guess that true of any book, but this seemed particularly true of this book to me). It's for someone who wants to be told all the no nonsense do's and don'ts in a very concise way with not much elaboration or nuance. What I really appreciate about this approach is that so many pregnant folks just don't have the bandwidth or inclination for lots of time spent on reading long and detailed books. They really do give you the essential need-to-knows, including my fave of pointing out the benefit of seeking pelvic physical therapy after birth, which I believe should just be standard of care (but isn't yet in the U.S.).

If you, on the other hand, don't like a "rules" kind of tone, or want a book that goes into the more reflective, inward transformative aspect of the journey into parenthood, this might not be the best book for you.

Reliable, safe, general advice for any pregnant woman

Very to the point advice that covers the entire journey of pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum. Mention of both c- and v- birth prep and recovery. Validating and clear, no nonsense.

This has been an extremely helpful resource to me. Especially with how political birth, nursing, etc has been as of late, it’s nice to just get some real advice from a professional that’s not super dated but also not too new age and unproven.

I don’t want to gamble the health or safety of my growing baby or myself, and this book has given great topics to discuss with my dr and given me practical and helpful things to consider throughout this process.
