About this listen

In Edwardian London, Magnus Bane discovers old friends and new enemies... including the son of his former comrade Will Herondale. One of ten adventures in The Bane Chronicles.

Magnus thought he would never return to London, but he is lured by a handsome offer from Tatiana Blackthorn, whose plans - involving her beautiful young ward - are far more sinister than Magnus even suspects. In London at the turn of the century, Magnus finds old friends, and meets a very surprising young man... the sixteen-year-old James Herondale.

This standalone short story illuminates the life of the enigmatic Magnus Bane, whose alluring personality populates the pages of the #1 New York Times bestselling series The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices. This story in The Bane Chronicles, The Midnight Heir, is written by Cassandra Clare and Sarah Rees Brennan.

Very Interesting

It's always cool to get a back story or more information on past and present characters. Being a fan of Tess and Will, I really enjoyed this one. It gives you glimpse into their son, James.

Oh Magnus

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I'm really not sure. Seems like this book was over before it really ever started.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I love the Herondales. Will and Tessa

Do you think The Midnight Heir needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Well knowing that it is part of a short story collection no. But feeling as if a lot was left out there...... Yes. I need answers

Good start, but where is the story?

If you could sum up The Midnight Heir in three words, what would they be?

Where's the story?

Would you recommend The Midnight Heir to your friends? Why or why not?

If you are a Magnus lover, then yes, but if not, don't bother...

Which character – as performed by David Oyelowo – was your favorite?

He did a good job with Magnus

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Not quite, but almost.

Any additional comments?

I loved seeing some of our fav characters from the past, but the story was lacking. almost like they left a chapter out.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

I think it was a fitting end to the book, since the story was not very attractive

What about David Oyelowo’s performance did you like?

The performance is all right, I didn't like this book.

Was The Midnight Heir worth the listening time?

I don't know, because I didn't like the book, but in the future, maybe i try again

Revisit Will/Tessa/Jem Need I say more!!!!!

What made the experience of listening to The Midnight Heir the most enjoyable?

The LOVE Triangle of Will/Tessa/Jem

What do you think your next listen will be?

Ok I'm hooked on the series and back stories I can't resist!!

What three words best describe David Oyelowo’s performance?

Can't comment, I don't think its fair to the actor I'm listening to the series in order and find it completely annoying that all the actors are different in this series!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Any additional comments?

OMG the love is so palpable btwn those three and to revisit and see them again and their progress. I LOVE these guys I cried because I was so moved by their infinity for each other.

Just kind of leaves you hanging.

Okay I understand this short book is another of Magus stories, and that he should be the primary focus of it. In fact it annoys me when the a story about someone focuses on someone else. However in this case it seems like there is a larger story that Magus is just a small portion of and you are only being given a glimpse of his role in the story and nothing else. It seems incomplete, like you started in the middle of a story read a chapter and then stopped.

They changed narrators again for this one, he is not bad, not great but not bad, the 3rd book still has the best choice for Bane voice in my opinion. As far as telling of the story he did a decent job.

I couldn't get enough.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Midnight Heir?

Hm, Magnus going to tatianas house was exiting, and it was cool hearing where she now was.

Which character – as performed by David Oyelowo – was your favorite?

I think he performed Magnus very well. James also though.

If you could rename The Midnight Heir, what would you call it?

Hm, I don't know.

Any additional comments?

It was so nice to hear about some of the old characters from The Infernal Devices. I'm a huge Cassandra Clare, and getting to hear about some of my favorite charectors, almost made me cry. The story is written amazing, and David did a good job.

Will Tessa And Jem!!!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I absolutely loved the clockwork angel series and some of the characters from there are in this short story. I cried as I felt like I had my three favorite characters back even for a very short time. It is lovely and wonderful all of the bane chronicles are amazing, as Magnus is also one of my favorite characters from all of Cassandra claires work.

What other book might you compare The Midnight Heir to and why?

as stated above, Magnus Bane is amazing, funny and real and these short stories are a great way to see his imense life and all that he has experienced.

Have you listened to any of David Oyelowo’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

no

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

this book made me cry and laugh and love every minute that I got to spend with Will Tessa and Jem, I love them these characters are amazing

Fell a little flat

What would have made The Midnight Heir better?

I really loved the aspect of Will, Tessa and Jem being in this novella, but I feel like a little more of them would have been better. The whole memory/story itself just fell flat. There wasn't a whole of meat to it.

Would you ever listen to anything by Cassandra Clare and Sarah Rees Brennan again?

Yes

What does David Oyelowo bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He was a good Bane, believable compared to some of the others

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Midnight Heir?

The scene when Jem, Tessa and Will were all oggling all over each other..was a little creepy and a bit much. With not a whole lot of purpose but to further why their son felt left out.
