Great story, but...

I loved the story but the narrator over pronounces everything to a bizarre extent, and some words just sound weird from her. For instance, the way she pronounces mama is very strange. My kids call me mama, but it's pronounced momma, not maw maw. And Tobias, she pronounces it Toe-bias. Every time. It's just... weird. and mildly annoying. I enjoyed the story very much, just wish they'd chosen a different narrator who could have really done it justice.

Time traveling and Teen Angst

4.5 stars. I listened to audible version. The story is a great thrilling time traveling YA book. It's the book in a series and has the perfect amount of backstory, conflicts, lessons and the ever elusive cliffhanger for a good hook. The 16 year old hits the right tone both in her life and time traveling 300 hundred years earlier. One of the story lines is on soul mates and racism. I appreciated the amount of backstory and unfolding of teenage angst with a decent amount of resolution for a first book in a series. The historical fiction surrounding King Phillips war was well researched.
The narrator herself was doing a good job except the production came off sounding like it was taped in a tin can. I found it disconcerting....every time I felt I could block it out something would happen that made it creep up front again.

I would recommend reading this book.

Time travel blended with young love.

Plot didn't satisfy me. Adventure could have been extended, while cropping more mundane details. Lack-luster delivery. Minimal character distinction.
