About this listen

Casey Donovan has issues: hair, height, and uncontrollable trips to the 19th century! And now this - she's accidentally taken Nate Mackenzie, the cutest boy in the school, back in time. Awkward.

It's the eve of the American Civil War, and protocol pressures Casey to tell their hosts that Nate is her brother. No one is more surprised than she is when they are forced to share a one-room workers' cabin. Super awkward. Nate's slow to accept their new reality, but when he does he realizes he needs Casey to get back. His nearness is intoxicating to Casey, but she keeps her cool by hanging a privacy blanket and staying aloof. Knowing Nate has an evil girlfriend waiting for him at home helps.

Over time Casey gains the attention of a handsome, wealthy (and unwanted) suitor, and something changes in Nate. Are those romantic sparks, or is it just protectiveness?

When they return to the present, things go back to the way they were before: Casey parked on the bottom rung of their school's social ladder and Nate perched high on the very top. Except this time her heart is broken. Plus, her best friend is mad, her parents are split up, and her younger brother gets escorted home by the police. The only thing that could make life worse is if, by some strange twist of fate, she took Nate back to the past again.

Which of course, she does....

The Clockwise Collection is light science-fiction (historical) time travel with a nice splash of young adult romance!

Fun YA adventure with colorful cast of characters

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Yes, I'd recommend this to ya scifi and fantasy fans, who don't mind romance and time travel elements.

What other book might you compare Clockwise to and why?

Timeglasses series by Chess Desalls- ya time travel adventure romance

What three words best describe Andrea Emmes’s voice?

Youthful, Vibrant, Reliable

What would have made this romance irresistible?

More believable timeline, less wishy-washyness

Any additional comments?

I loved the idea of this story and it may be one of those rare cases where the written version might outshine the audio. At times the narrator was a bit flat and forgetful of which character's voice to use, but overall she was a great choice.

Such a cute story!

This was an interesting time travel story with relatable characters and a sweet romance. Casey is constantly in a difficult situation and handles quite well for a 16 year old. She is brave and smart and Nate finally realizes it in the end. I can't wait to see what happens next!

This is such a sweet story! Well the ending was really sweet with an amazing twist! I never saw that coming! If you're into a YA time traveling stories then pick this book up! You'll be glad you did. This book had me on my toes almost the entire way through. There are a few twists that will leave your jaw on the floor, plus the way she writes the story will have you living in that timeline.

Enjoyable & well-performed story

What made the experience of listening to Clockwise the most enjoyable?

The most enjoyable part of listening to the story was being able to listen to it while doing manual labor, or when I was too tired to lift a book.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the characters & the time travel disconcerting adventures they found themselves in, as they tried to survive in unfamiliar territory. Their reactions were genuine.

What about Andrea Emmes’s performance did you like?

Smoothly done. Good vocal characterizations, making each character different from one another, both male & female characters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but couldn't. Managed to complete it in 4 days.

Any additional comments?

I read the book sometime ago, before getting the audiobook. It was great being able to listen to it and remember why I got it in the first place.

Time Travelling Teens

I really enjoyed this story. Even though the main character time travels, that is not the main focus of the story. It is the relationships (K.C / Casey?) she forms with people both in our time and in the past that make the story so interesting. It is also the survival techniques that she develops over time starting at the tender age of 9 - her first jump. I'm glad I chose this book, both on Amazon and Audible. What is great is that if you purchase the book on Amazon, you can get a great discount for that book on Audible.

its okay

no plot. this book is a stream of life experiences - mistly focused on how a preadolescent girl obsesses on a boy. not much story. nice ending though.
good writer - I actually finished it - so it wasnt a complete bomb... just would have preferred a story behind the scenario

Time travel story that you just can't put down!

Any additional comments?

I love smart young adult novels that involve more than mere hormones and yearnings. That is exactly what I got with Clockwise by Elle Strauss. The story centers around Casey who appears to be just a regular high school student who is crushing on the popular football star from afar. We know from the start that Casey's kind of a brainiac who has one best friend who knows everything about her, including the fact that she time travels.

Clockwise reminded me of The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger because our heroine, Casey, has no control over when she travels back in time or how long she stays there. What's different from The Time Traveler's Wife is Casey always travels back to 1860 in the exact same location as she is in the present. She also returns from the past at exactly the same moment as when she left (except for dark circles under her eyes).

Clockwise is one of those stories that improves the longer you listen to it- it's smart, intelligent, and adventurous. When Casey's in the present though, the story is just so-so, but once she travels back in time, the story really picks up. Clockwise addresses both the war between the States, and the civil rights movement in the early 1960's. (Admittedly, I had a hard time getting into Outlander by Diana Gabaldon too until after the 3rd chapter).

I listened to the Audible version of this story narrated by Andrea Emmes. She did a wonderful job narrating this book, providing distinct and consistent voices for all characters. Her narration really contributed to my satisfaction of the story. I would recommend this audiobook to anyone who enjoys time travel novels, even if I were not provided a copy of this audio by the author in exchange for my honest review. The ending is simply amazing! It comes full circle, fitting several pieces from the past together, to one perfect conclusion. Bravo!

Love this story!

This one of the best time travel stories I've read/listened to. I loved all the characters, and the way the story developed. It's funny, emotional, endearing. I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen next.

Great narration really brought the characters to life and added dimension to them and to the story. I will definitely read/listen to more by both this narrator and author.
