Publisher's summary

An addictive debut psychological thriller for fans of The Girl on the Train, Liane Moriarty and Lucy Foley.

This is the story of Lucy and Paul. They met. They fell deeply in love. They got married. Lucy thought that she had everything she wanted. Until she found the photograph, the text messages. Until she uncovered Paul's secrets. Now Lucy realises she doesn't really know her husband. She doesn't know if she can trust her own mind. She doesn't know the lengths Paul would go to keep his perfect life. And worst of all, she doesn't know that she's in danger...

Elena Wilkes grew up in Walsall in the West Midlands and then worked for eighteen years in H.M Prison Service. The people she met there provided the basis for all her novels.

Many of the prisoners there came across as very ordinary people who had committed the most appalling crimes but would, one day, walk straight back on the streets.

This begged the question: how much do we know about anyone, really? The people who live amongst us may seem no different from us at all, but when you scratch a little deeper, you realise they hold some very dark secrets.

Girl Please

I totally get infatuation & temptation, but when ol’ boy starts showing his colors on day two, it’s time to go.

I love dark domestic and psychological thrillers, but when one of the main characters becomes so completely manipulative and cringey in the first few chapters, it’s hard for me to listen.

My other complaint is that this book is almost exactly like ten other books I’ve read, with the exception of a couple unique twists. However, this one actually gets better rather than worse as it went, so ultimately it was worth it.

Frustrating

I found myself very frustrated by the main character. SO MANY red flags and yet she just keeps traipsing along, continuing her relationship with this man. The ending felt rushed and weird, difficult to understand and REALLY could have used an epilogue.

this had the potential to be good

this had the potential to be an excellent suspense story but sadly lost it's way.

Hor. Ri. Ble.

The main character in this book was so stupid, it was frustrating. Then, certain characters just disappeared from the story line with no explanation. And the ending.......if someone tripping on acid wrote the ending, it probably would make more sense than this garbage. Terrible book.

Affair to Remember

This book is very well written, funny at times, and darkly suspenseful. The characters were insightful and interesting. The main character, Lucy, simply doesn’t trust herself in love and relationships but she falls hard for Paul- and then she is set up for a very dangerous game. The twists were well-done. Maybe not unpredictable but enjoyable nonetheless. I really liked it and am gonna give it my four and a half stars of excellent approval. Recommended!
