I am not afraid to die
-- Father Stanley Rother

What makes a man stand by his faith when he knows his adversaries will slay him? Why does he not run when he could escape his murder? How does he stand against fear when he knows assault is coming?

Father Stanley Rother’s story answers these questions. Going to Guatemala in 1968 as a missionary, he enabled poor farmers to find a new and prosperous way of life. As he brought hope, the government feared his influence as the Army sought to destroy the indigenous people. Standing for his faith, Father Stanley knew he was on their death list and yet he stayed to the end.

His story offers renewed courage and insight in standing for the highest while being faced with personal destruction. Father Stanley Rother was and is a man for our time.

Story good, narration bad

Robert Wise wrote an informative and interesting novel about Father Stanley Rother. This is a great introduction to a holy man from Oklahoma who was killed in Guatemala in 1968 while serving as a missionary.

The virtual voice narration is aggravating. A few examples include pronouncing RCIA as "ree-sa" and Rother as "Ro-ter." One confusing, constant, and irritating pronunciation was "F. R." for "Fr." which is an abbreviation for"Father," The virtual voice randomly said either father or F. R. Near the end of the book, the virtual voice read "persevering" for "preserving." There are more examples, but I didn't track and didn't want to go back and re-listen.

I'm missing real person narration.
