About this listen
The Liberal Rednecks - a three-man stand-up comedy group doing scathing political satire - celebrate all that's good about the South while leading the Redneck Revolution and standing proudly blue in a sea of red.
Smart, hilarious, and incisive, the Liberal Rednecks confront outdated traditions and intolerant attitudes, tackling everything people think they know about the South - the good, the bad, the glorious, and the shameful - in a laugh-out-loud funny and lively manifesto for the rise of a New South. Home to some of the best music, athletes, soldiers, whiskey, waffles, and weather the country has to offer, the South has also been bathing in backward bathroom bills and other bigoted legislation that Trae Crowder has targeted in his Liberal Redneck videos, which have gone viral, with over 50 million views.
Perfect for fans of Stuff White People Like, I Am America (and So Can You), and Dear White People, The Liberal Redneck Manifesto skewers political and religious hypocrisies in witty stories such as the Ten Commandments of the New South and much more! While celebrating the South as one of the richest sources of American culture, this entertaining audiobook issues a wake-up call and a reminder that the South's problems and dreams aren't that far off from the rest of America's.

Trae and Corey will take you from the smallest of small towns to major US metropolises (or is it metropoli? We haven't a fartin' clue!). They'll even cross the pond to sip tea in some of them fancy kings-and-castles places that PBS Viewers Like You can't stop yapping about. From Chickamauga to Cheyenne, New York to New Orleans, Seattle to Scotland—no matter where these two wandering jesters go, there's something to roast, something to toast, and something to learn about what ties us together as humans. Even the most outrageous of us.

Story
Inspired by her research for the hit podcast Ultra, Rachel Maddow charts the rise of a wild American strain of authoritarianism that has been alive on the far-right edge of our politics for the better part of a century. Before and even after our troops had begun fighting abroad in World War II, a clandestine network flooded the country with disinformation aimed at sapping the strength of the U.S. war effort and persuading Americans that our natural alliance was with the Axis, not against it.

Bert Kreischer doesn't know how to say "no." If he did, he wouldn't have gotten himself mixed up with a group of Russian mobsters on a class trip to Moscow, earning him his nickname: "The Machine." He wouldn't have wrestled with a bear or swum with sharks on national television. He wouldn't have (possibly) smoked PCP with a star of Saturday Night Live. And he wouldn't have been named the Number One Partier in the Nation by Rolling Stone, inspired the movie National Lampoon's Van Wilder, or performed standup to sellout crowds across the country.

If there’s one trait that makes someone well-suited to comedy, it’s being able to take a punch - metaphorically and, occasionally, physically. Comedian Tom Segura is incapable of doing an Asian accent. He can't dazzle you with puppets or an acoustic guitar. What Tom Segura can do is tell jokes. Jokes about black people, Mexican people, homeless people, little people, and, yes, his balls. But he’s light enough, endearing enough and downright wacky enough to tackle these topics without sounding like a fulminating Tea Party candidate or a Ragin' Palin apostle on his delightfully deranged and dippy debut album.

In 2018 Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene took to social media to share her suspicions that the California wildfires were started by 'space solar generators' which were funded by powerful, mysterious backers. Instantly, thousands of people rallied around her, blaming the fires on "Jewish space lasers" and, ultimately, the Rothschild family. For more than 200 years, the name "Rothschild" has been synonymous with two things: great wealth, and conspiracy theories about what they're "really doing" with it.

Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

What made the experience of listening to The Liberal Redneck Manifesto the most enjoyable?
These guys nailed it. It was funny, and downright hilarious in places. But it was also thought provoking and well researched. The history and social commentary is actually what makes this book worth checking out. The humor--and there is quite a lot of it--is just icing on the cake.

Must Read!
If you are from the South, specifically Appalachia and have found yourself an "outcast" among many of your peers and family members- READ THIS BOOK! There is so much truth about Appalachian culture and the challenges/history of the region and its people. I promise you will relate to it and you won't regret it. This book hit home, hard with some unexpected tears along the way, woven into the hilarity of the truths.

Highly relatable
Growing up in the urban south (not urban like NYC, but a far far cry from the rural south) I've often found myself being way more liberal than one group of friends/family and way more conservative than another group. This book puts words to so many feelings I've had in my life.
The book is nothing like perfect and there's a lot of their arguments which fall flat, but all in all it's fantastic. It's great to finally see someone representing my own experience. And of course, coming from 3 comedians, it's well performed and extremely funny and clever.

Yes Virginia, Liberal Rednecks Do Exist
If you could sum up The Liberal Redneck Manifesto in three words, what would they be?
Food for thought.
What other book might you compare The Liberal Redneck Manifesto to and why?
Its pretty unique. I can't really compare it to other political books. From an ideological standpoint its boilerplate liberal views so I guess it is the opposite of Ron Paul's Revolution: Manifesto, but where it shine is hen it really delves into the who, what, and why's of southern redneck culture.
What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
A personal touch which gives the whole manifesto more authenticity than just words on the page.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
It wasn't a "can't put down" work, but I knew I was going to finish it.
Any additional comments?
If your staunch conservative, your not going to like this book no matter the manner in which it is presented. If your a hardcore liberal, its not going to go far enough for your taste If you have an open mind and are willing to listen without judgement, there are some funny and insightful moments to be had. As a native southerner myself, I could relate to a lot of the cultural eccentricities highlighted in this book and the authors remind me of the folks I grew up with.

A genuine take on the South
A genuine take on the South, the good and bad, from actual southerners. I've listened to this several times and it still makes me laugh out loud. It may be a book written by three comedians, but it contains good insights into why "The South" carries such a negative connotation, while also giving hilarious and heart-warming stories that show the true beauty of Southern living.
