About this listen

In the desolate ruins of America, where the remnants of humanity cling to survival, the settlement of Erehwon stands as a fragile bastion in a world unmade. But beneath the surface of this last refuge, a sinister truth festers. The waters are toxic, food is scarce, and the once-powerful Venganza tribe faces a crisis that threatens their very existence.

Enter Hado, a determined soul driven to uncover the unsettling reality behind Erehwon’s impending doom. As secrets unravel, Hado finds herself entangled in a web of betrayal that runs deeper than she ever imagined. The fate of the Venganza hangs in the balance, pushing her and the valiant women of the clan to embark on a perilous journey across the ravaged lands of North America.

Their destination? The West—a land shrouded in mystery, where the hope of humanity might still flicker. This odyssey is fraught with danger, from the remnants of a broken world to the lurking shadows of unseen foes. Each step is a gamble in this treacherous game of survival, where the stakes are nothing less than the future of mankind.

Book 2 of the Forsaken Trilogy delves deeper into the heart of speculative horror, a masterful tale by bestselling author J. Thorn. It’s a saga of resilience and betrayal, a journey that explores the depths of human tenacity in the face of apocalyptic despair.

The clock is ticking, and the journey west is fraught with perils unknown. The question remains: Can Hado and her allies uncover the truth and forge a new path for humanity, or will they be swallowed by the shadows of a world undone?

Very entertaining addition to the series.

The Last Ruin book two in the Forsaken Trilogy follows Hado and Dia as they trek west to thwart Shiva’s plans for the water whisperer. The tone of this story is just as dark and dystopian as Frozen Wasteland, making it another really good post-apocalyptic offering.

While the first book in this trilogy was centered around the battles between Los Muertos and the Venganza, an extra element is introduced in this book – infighting within the clans, making for a more unpredictable journey as Hado and Dia head west from Ohio in search of the promise of San Francisco.

I listened to the audiobook narrated with virtual voice. While Virtual voice doesn’t work well for all stories, in the case of The Last Ruin I hardly noticed I was listening to AI instead of a human narrator.
