Inspector Nayland Smith has unearthed a plot that could mean the end of civilization as we know it. He's just arrived in London, chasing the greatest criminal mind ever to come from the East. But when he arrives to warn Sir Crichton Davies that he is in danger, he finds he is too late. Sir Crichton has become the first victim of the insidious Dr. Fu-Manchu.

It seems common that those most victimised by gross brutality then become objects of gross discrimination.
There was an Independence Movement against the West after The Boxers decided 'enough was enough', with the West destroying Chinese Culture and Society with huge loss of life, out of greed, and then having the audacity to send their missionaries to preach love and forgiveness..
As a glimpse into popular thinking of this time the story could be given a resounding 5 star listen.
However we have all manner of politically incorrect sentiments being expressed in this classic piece of popular fiction.
It was written as a serial in the newspapers of the day, and this explains the multiple adventures for our hero as he unravels the plots to bring down the Government.
Fu-Manchu stories did become a popular series in it's day.
Pulp Fiction of the day

Where does The Insidious Dr. Fu-Manchu rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Not top 25, but top 100.Which character – as performed by B. J. Harrison – was your favorite?
Fu-Manchu. He brought the evil genius without making the man a one dimensional cardboard character.Any additional comments?
This is one of those books which are easier to listen to then read text. Harrison is the reason. The narrator brings the charactors to life.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
No. The plot and story are classic Sax Rohmer Fu Manchu but the effort is spoiled by the narrator who mispronounces a number of references, even including the characters name of Petrie. The audiobook is also missing chapter references, with which every other audible book I have purchased has come with (shown by clicking on the "Chapters" button in iTunes). These chapters are a useful reference when playing an audio book in iTunes. A simple operation by the narrator in a program like Chapter and Verse would have rectified this oversight.Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Love the plot, but the narration spoiled enjoyment of itHow could the performance have been better?
Yes, pronouncing the words properly would have significantly improved enjoyment.Disappointing rendition of classic Fu Manchu adven

Some of the language is obviously from another time. But the overall storyline was fun and kept me engaged.
