Acerca de esta escucha

It’s the autumn of 1890, and a spate of bombings has hit London. The newspapers are full of fevered speculation about anarchists, antimonarchists and Fenians. But one man suspects an even more sinister hand behind the violence.

Sherlock Holmes believes Professor Moriarty is orchestrating a nationwide campaign of terror, but to what end? At the same time, a bizarrely garbed figure has been spotted on the rooftops and in the grimy back alleys of the capital.

He moves with the extraordinary agility of a latter-day Spring-heeled Jack. He possesses weaponry and armor of unprecedented sophistication. He is known only by the name Baron Cauchemar, and he appears to be a scourge of crime and villainy. But is this masked man truly the force for good that he seems? Is he connected somehow to the bombings?

Holmes and his faithful companion Dr. Watson are about to embark on one of their strangest and most exhilarating adventures yet.

Good story. Well read. Enjoyed the book. Somewhat non realistic but fun nonetheless. Would recommend if you enjoy Sherlock Holmes.

Very enjoyable romp through Sherlock and Watson’s adventures.

James Lovegrove really did Sherlock and Dr. Watson proud with this one 👏. He did an ama?ing job with the format written in watsons hand with his same vocabulary and tendency to "romanticize" things a tad and maybe over embellish here or there but all while having that same very posh Watson way of talking and describing people and things. He also nailed the very strict sense of justice and right and wrong both Watson and Sherlock hold so desrly in the deepest parts of themselves. He stayed true to the Sherlock Canon and even made little "authors notes" explaining or describing away certain issues that one may have nitpicked at and also placing when this happened in accordance with the rest of his accounts as well as why it took him so long to publish. The actual plot did get a bit dark for me at times (i am a sensitive soul afterall) which seemed to me a semi departure from the OG novels by sir ACD but overall the book was very enjoyable and worth investing both your time and money. Im already buying up the rest of the series quick fast.

Really great rendition of the beloved Sherlock

In my years reading Sherlock Holmes I have come across several newly written novels that I’ve throughly enjoyed. Out of all of them this was by far the most fantastical yet! James Love grove blends a classic adventure of Holmes and Watson standing fast against a dangerous foe with steam powered wonders that Jules Verne would’ve been proud to have inspired, and a madman who hopes to use such technology to bring about his own version of the 3rd Reich decades early. Truly one of the best and a must have recommendation for anyone a fan of the great detective and steampunk fiction!

Jules Verne and Sir Conan Doyle Would be Proud

A faithful further adventure of Holmes and Watson and an interesting new character. Loved the steampunk flourishes.

Captivating

This story was entertaining and the characters of Watson and Holmes are true to the original tales. I know that Doyle used elements of depravity and violence, so I suppose this author is not 'going to far' but he does seem to go on about it a bit more, and less on plot. Also, much more like a modern movie action film and weaker on the mystery of the crime and the talents of Sherlock's intellect. I liked Sherlock Holmes and the Christmas Demon a lot more, and will hesitate to purchase another in this series. The performance is superb.

A bit more action hero than detective

It would’ve been a great story until the ending. Somewhat disturbed at the more ludicrous ending that I’ve ever seen in a Sherlock Holmes story.

Underwhelming ending

For the most part, the story was fun and intriguing, however, the ending was a bit too fantastical.

Enjoyable adventure

And all worth the listen to be in the company of Watson and Holmes. I didn’t like the voice for Holmes. And the writing voice was good, but not quite like ACD.

The story was very good

Clever story and authentic narrator. It was true to the Sherlock Holmes and Watson characters.
