About this listen

From the bestselling author of The House Guest comes a chilling story set deep in the woods...

With his marriage over and his career in freefall, journalist Tom decides to reconnect with his fourteen-year-old daughter, Frankie. Desperate to spend precious time together now that they live an ocean apart, he brings her to Hollow Falls, a cabin resort deep in the woods of Maine.

From the outset there’s something a little eerie about the place—strange whispers in the trees, windchimes echoing through the forest—but when Tom meets true-crime podcasters David and Connie, he receives a chilling warning. Hollow Falls has a gruesome history: twenty years ago this week, a double slaying shut down the resort. The crime was never solved, and now the woods are overrun with murder-obsessed tourists looking to mark the grim anniversary.

It’s clear that there’s something deeply disturbing going on at Hollow Falls. And as Tom’s dream trip turns into a nightmare, he and Frankie are faced with a choice: uncover the truth, or get out while they still can.

I loved the story! The narration was distractingly bad at times. Overall, I enjoyed it very much.

Great story!

I can not get over how bad the narrator was, I want to finish but he really is bad. I kept thinking that the characters were shaggy and scooby or from family guy. The female voices were even worse, giving the impression of something completely different than what I think the writer wanted. I might return and just read it myself. Only an hour and a half in.

The narrator ruined this.

The women all sound ridiculous- the writer obviously struggled with the conversation patterns for the teenagers and the performer gave them all valley girl voices. Both were very distracting from what was already a mediocre story.

Needs to learn female voice

Like all Mark Edwards books, I found this refreshing and new. It wasn't a recycled story that I've seen from another author. Mr. Edwards has an exciting and captivating style. My only problem with this audible book was the narrator did a terrible impression of a 14 year old girl. She's supposed to be British-born and only living in America for a few years. Instead of having a modified British accent, he gave her a horrible "New Yawk" accent. It was annoying and cringe-worthy. If I wasn't busy doing things, I would have just gone with the Kindle version.

Narrator not my favorite this time arround

This is kind of “ghosts and gouls” in the beginning, but stick it out because it gets better! The narration isn’t the best, but the story itself is good. Definitely not the best book I’ve read but also not the worst. Worth the credit.

Fairly good story

An enjoyable story. The narration was fine but the narrator made some strange choices.

The English daughter lives in Albany for three years but has a thick Brooklyn accent ?

I'm now used to people messing up a Maine accent but these people sound like they are from down south. Regional American accents are practically dead, let it rest. They are too easy to mess up.

Also, why can't narrators do their homework and look up how local names are pronounced? Quite a few mistakes here. Not a big deal very few people will notice.

Also the narrator goes from emoting the dialog in one sentence then pivots to robot voice in the next. So strange.

I enjoy Mark Edwards novels, and this one is no exception. If you enjoyed his others you will enjoy this one too.

Good Book, Strange Vocal Choices

I was a little skeptical at first, but the store grew on me over time. I enjoyed the narration and the story was well written. Some parts were a little strange, but it all came together in the end.

Strange but good

On the edge of my seat

The narrator's American accents distracted from the story. The story itself was okay. I'm hoping we'll find out what happens next.

Not my favorite Mark Edwards story
