Acerca de esta escucha

In this chilling thriller from the bestselling author of Keep Her Secret, if you don’t take your dark secrets to the grave, maybe they’ll take you there first…

Calvin finally owns the bakery of his dreams, in an idyllic village in the Lake District. After reluctantly following his wife Vicky’s advice to promote it on social media, he’s thrilled when a viral clip makes him a legend overnight. But then the creepy DMs start flooding in—all from a stranger who claims she’s his biggest fan.

Meanwhile, a local recluse is found on a nearby beach, buried to his neck and left to drown, and the community goes into shock. Why would anyone want him dead? And who exactly was he? Detective Imogen Evans, new to the Lake District, is under pressure to find out before the killer strikes again.

As the murder hunt gathers pace, Calvin’s obsessive admirer turns up right on cue after his assistant is injured in an accident, and to Vicky’s horror she’s here to stay. As events begin spiralling into darkness, is there anyone in this quiet backwater Calvin can trust—or have his mistakes already put him, and everyone he loves, in terrible danger?

I read this as an ARC and I couldn't wait to listen to it once it was released. As usual with any of Mark Edwards UK set books, I was not disappointed!

Another brilliant story!

Always love Mark Edwards’ last minute jaw dropping twists! This was so good I finished it in one day. I just couldn’t stop listening! Highly recommend!!!

Absolutely Brilliant!!!

While the story was neither heavy nor terribly complex, it had a lot of twists and turns that kept it fun and thrilling. There were a bit more coincidental overhearings going on than in real life but all that was necessary to bind otherwise unconnected characters. Really enjoyed it and it kept me engaged nonstop.

Great Fun!

Another triumphant mystery from the dynamic duo of Mark Edwards and Simon Mattacks; their collaboration is audictive as they join forces to bring us another gripping and suspenseful listen that kept me wanting more. Mattacks’ engrossing narration brings the characters to life with his engaging vocals. This book is complex and I did get lost several times, but found my way back and was glad I continued. I was lucky enough to grab this during an Audible 2-for-1 sale, though it’s worth a credit. Calvin, finally achieved his dream of owning a bakery. However, his newfound success attracts an eerie admirer who bombards him with disturbing messages. Meanwhile, a gruesome murder shocks the community, and Detective Imogen Evans must race against time to solve this investigation. With twists and turns at every corner, can Calvin trust anyone in this quiet village?

Mark Edwards and Simon Mattacks again!

I love Mark Edwards books. You never really know who is going to be the villain. Filled with many twists and turns, the story unfolds in unexpected ways. The narrator does a great job also.

Had me gripped from the beginning. Edward is clever, which i always appreciate in a mystery. Some humor, some side stories. It ticks all the boxes.
Highly recommended.

Another Edwards winner...

I enjoy all books by Mark Edwards and I really enjoyed that I pretty much wait until the end to realize something that I wasnt even thinking about it and this became the plot of the novel.

really being unsure of who was good and/or bad

"The Darkest Water" sunk below sea level for me.

I am a huge fan of Mark Edwards so perhaps my expectations were set too high.

The book had a strong start but quickly tanked.

I prefer fewer well-developed characters with a believable and realistic plotline.

Overall, this book suffered from too many characters and waaay too many bizarre and far-fetched coincidences.

Although Simon Mattacks did a superb job with the narration, the book unfolded from two POVs and would have benefited from an additional female narrator.

Disappointing!
