About this listen

"Kathleen McInerney’s narration is as always fantastic, she places just the right tone and emotion to every situation giving the listener an edge over readers."—The Reading Frenzy on The Hidden One

This program is read by longtime series and award-winning narrator, Kathleen McInerney.

The discovery of an Amish bishop's remains leads chief of police Kate Burkholder to unearth a chilling secret in The Hidden One, a new thriller from bestselling author Linda Castillo.

Over a decade ago, beloved Amish bishop Ananias Stoltzfus disappeared without a trace. When skeletal remains showing evidence of foul play are unearthed, his disappearance becomes even more sinister.

The town’s elders arrive in Painters Mill to ask chief of police Kate Burkholder for help, but she quickly realizes she has a personal connection to the crime. The handsome Amish man who stands accused of the murder, Jonas Bowman, was Kate’s first love. Forced to confront a painful episode from her past, Kate travels to Pennsylvania’s Kishacoquillas Valley, where the Amish culture differs dramatically from the traditions she knows. Though Bishop Stoltzfus was highly respected, she soon hears about a dark side to this complex man. What was he hiding that resulted in his own brutal death?

Someone doesn’t want Kate asking questions. But even after being accosted and threatened in the dead of night, she refuses to back down. Is she too close to the case—and to Jonas—to see clearly? There’s a killer in the Valley who will stop at nothing to keep the past buried. Will they get to Kate before she can expose the truth? Or will the bishop’s secrets remain hidden forever?

Stop having Kate be stupid .

Writers always have characters that are supposed to be smart do stupid things to create drama. As careless and unaware as Kate was here she probably could have been dead several times. When she said she would be ready next time, she should have been ready the first time. Should caused noticeable eyed damaged and passed that along to police and others. Not aware of surroundings or prepared and to slow on the draw. She's to lucky. The dumbest saying is I'd rather be lucky than good, because luck runs out good doesn't.

Ms Castillo continues to shine

A writer who can continue to entertain the reader and keep the adult relationship real without silly crises and over the top drama is truly rare. Ms Castillo is a keeper. Also, Kathleen Interney is Kate Burkholder.

Enjoyed the book, but I needed more

I absolutely love Linda Castillo (Kate Burkholder Series) of books! And Kathleen McInerney delivers on point at all times; she is an amazing narrator of any book she lends her voice too.
I understand the storyline for this new book, it takes us back to Kates younger days and fills in the gaps nicely. Don't get me wrong, it was a good read/listen, however it was missing the Painters Mill cast of characters. We only get a small glimpse of Kates team at the police station and snippets of Tomasetti.
A nice read, good story, but missing the normal element of Painters Mill characters and edge of your seat intrigue.

Romance

This was one of the best in the entire series! And although I can barely tolerate a romance, this has the sweetest story in the background. I give this an A+++++

Best

This is the author’s best book to date. Books don’t often make me cry. It was so poignant and mysterious at the same time!
