About this listen

The Generosity Network is the essential guide to the art of activating resources of every kind behind any worthy cause. Philanthropist Jeff Walker and fund-raising expert Jennifer McCrea offer a fresh new perspective that can make the toughest challenges of nonprofit management and development less stressful, more rewarding - and even fun. Walker and McCrea show how traditional pre-scripted, money-centered, goal-oriented fund-raising techniques lead to anxiety and failure, while open-spirited, curiosity-driven, person-to-person connections lead to discovery, growth - and often amazing results. Through engrossing personal stories, a wealth of innovative suggestions, and inspiring examples, they show nonprofit leaders how to build a community of engaged partners who share a common passion and are eager to provide the resources needed to change the world - not just money, but also time, talents, personal networks, creative thinking, public support, and all the other forms of social capital that often seem scanty yet are really abundant, waiting to be uncovered and mobilized. Highly practical, motivating, and thought provoking, The Generosity Network is designed to energize and empower nonprofit leaders, managers, donors, board members, and other supporters. Whether you help run a multimillion-dollar global nonprofit or raise funds for a local scout troop, PTA, or other community organization, you' ll learn new approaches that will make your work more successful and enjoyable than ever.

Not earth-shattering

I think I was expecting something a bit more insightful. Well strategies like not interrupting funders when they’re talking to you are useful, they aren’t exactly earth shattering. Also the narrator drives me insane! It sounds like she’s narrating an infomercial -like everything she says is so exciting she just can’t help her voice inflection from going up at the end of every word.

Material good- narration is robotic

The narration sounds like Siri. It makes it tough to stick with the material I'm genuinely interested in.

Read It Twice

I checked out this book called the Generosity Network at the Edwardsville Library and ordered it for the second time on Audible. The 1st time I listened to it, I went on to be in the top half of the 1% of Senior Consultants in Ambit Energy. Now, I am running a performing arts advocacy whose duty it is to create music videos for fortune 500 companies so that the artists I manage have more promising artistic careers. If you or anyone you know would like info on my organization, I am an open book. I'm Devan Everytimeweshowup Walls on Face Book. If you want to find out more about the groundbreaking work of Generosity Network, look them up on line or check this book out. Even if you're not in nonprofit work and simply want to know how to have transformational relationships in your career instead of transactional ones, this book is for you!

NOT ANY PRACTICAL KNOWLEDGE - ZERO NUTS AND BOLTS

Would you try another book from the authors and/or Laura Smith?

SURE

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

It wasn't completely uninteresting, it was completely uninformative

What didn’t you like about Laura Smith’s performance?

I came away without any more knowledge of how to put together a fund raising campaign than I had before I listened to the book. Great Stories of how to talk to donors.. If that's what you need to know..

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

frustration from wasted time and money for the purpose that I was looking to meet..

Any additional comments?

If you are needing a systematic, nuts and bolts approach to raising funds for your non profit, this is not the right book.. It appears to be, but its just a compilation of stories of what the author has experienced in the past when sitting one on one with the donors.. As well as other stories of successful campaigns, but not a single detailed explanation of what they actually did in strategy and implementation to reach this success..
