About this listen

As the world's biggest powers compete for superiority, it's not larger weapons or greater numbers of soldiers that top their wish lists. Instead, it's the latest and greatest technological advances: nanotechnology, dynamic programming algorithms, and drones, working together to build the next generation of military communications.

When a professor at a Texas university begins researching ways to improve animal husbandry and boost global food supplies, her results catch the eye of inquisitive engineer Keith Austin Avery, whose interests have nothing to do with solving world hunger.

But as Avery works on potential new uses for this technology, his research draws the attention of a powerful terrorist group, with traumatic results for him and his subcontractor Eilla-Zan Marshall.

Now it;s up to the members of the R-Group to find the terrorists and their captives, using all the data and analytics at their disposal to leverage each and every piece of information.

The fast-paced third installment of the Enigma Series has R-Group's Jacob working closely with a powerful and talented team, with results that incorporate a satisfying balance of technology, surprisingly sensitive romance, and the blurred lines that surround the age-old conflict between good and evil.

Romance still a little awkward

Shoales continues his amazing narration work with this next book in the series. I enjoy his voice as it helps me get into the story easier knowing which character is speaking based on the little distinctions he does for each of them. I really love his accents as well! No production errors from what I can tell. Shoales is a perfect narrator for the series and I’m glad he has continued with the series if only for consistency 🙂 I give it a 5/5 stars.

The story itself of this third book is interesting. We get some more plot twists and weird technology introduced. From a reality perspective I get a little lost with how plausible the technology is/how it works. I think some more description on that would be beneficial since it is a scifi book. I also still question the romance a little haha. I’m more used to it, but I just don’t know if it’s super necessary to the series as a whole. But overall Breakfield and Burkey have done much better with the romantic parts and since it’s clearly something they want in here I am happy for the improvement. So I give the story itself a 4/5 stars.

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by MK Marketing. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

I could NOT put this audiobook down

The Enigma Ignite is an invigorating listen.  I could NOT put this audiobook down and found it extremely aggravating when I had no choice!

The authors put an interesting spin on nanobots that is unusual, unique and fascinating! Petra and Jacob are together again but play a smaller role in this story letting others take center stage.  Professor Su Lin in her quiet life to improve animal husbandry and with her assistants' help makes a discovery that everyone wants at any cost!  Otto and his crew of experts combined with new characters strive to keep the deadly work from the wrong hands while also thwarting the evil terrorist hell-bent on wreaking havoc on the US.  Su Lin puts Jacob and others in a major tailspin as they race against the clock to save her.

The authors Charles Breakfield and Roxanne Burkey are amazing authors!  They know their audience and know the genre inside and out!  They have built a cohesive and captivating group of people that their readers are invested in.  Their dialogs are realistic as are their characters.  I cannot wait to see where Breakfield and Burkey take us next with the earth-shattering endings and beginnings that are going to take place in the next book!

Derek Shoales did a great job of narrating the story.  His voice fluctuated appropriately, he spoke clearly and with some of the characters spoke them with conviction (i.e. the terrorist).  I enjoyed his voice and tone throughout the book.

Anyone who loves thrillers and mysteries with an amazing TWIST – this is the book for you!!!

It is interesting enough to bring me back for #3

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This one was a bit better, in my opinion, than the first two books in the series. The author still includes too many technology buzzwords, but I've either grown used to it, or it's not so blatant. Anyway, Derek Shoales continues to give a stellar performance and is what keeps me coming back to this series.

A Terrific Tech Thriller

I'd love to work for The R Group. This time it's nano bio technology that nations are racing to develop. The woman closest to getting it right wants it for good. Once others discover her lead, they are after her to implant in the human body. For good or for bad?

Jacob and the R Group will use their skills and their amazing technology to recover the woman and defeat those who have her.

The technology is fascinating in this series, and keeps me coming back for more. Likable characters, including several new ones, grow on you until you will want to know what they will do next.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review. I'm so glad I could. You can find my full review at Mystery Suspense Reviews.

Ignited my imagination, great writers/narration

3rd book in series I've bought. Narrator Derek is excellent. I am mystified as to how he keeps all those voices consistent but the guy gets them all inside my head to the point, I recognize the voices more than the names. Story is relevant, tech topic with a crazy story of nano-tech and an introduction to Franklin. Some sections are hilariously written and being from the tech industry its full of alphabet soup and the authors don't disappoint with some of their own "pi r squared". Some of the geeky romantic scenes still have me wondering now who the heck wrote that, Breakfield or Burkey. One of the powerful elements of the writing is that although its two authors, it flows with one voice. Off to book 4, I love Audible and love the Enigma Chronicles Series writers and narrator. What are you waiting for??? Get listening haha.

Another Great Read from Breakfield and Burkey!

Every time I read a new book in this series I think it the best yet. I just love the way the authors walk you through the technology explanations and the narrator has such a wide vocal range. The story involves a multi-national cast and it helps that the narrator has great vocal talent.

This book was really hard to put down. The story is riveting. Jacob and Petra are once again in the story, and many characters from previous stories have been given bigger parts. The team is put under a time line pressure that keeps you on the edge of your seat until the end.

I really hope this is made into a movie at some point. I think it would do well on a theater screen.

I received this as a gifted audiobook, but the review is honest and my own opinion.

A real world new tech business model for smugglers

Yes, you read correctly- smart drug and money laundering! Although they come off as dopey...they are actually pretty smart. Throughout the book characters trade witty jokes and put- downs that left me laughing days later. That being said, at times it can get a little slow...same old same old again- but all in all a great read about smugglers trying to get a leg up and hardly wiping the prize. Great narration no complaints there.
This is my honest review- worth the money and a good long book!

Intense story

I'm enjoying this series so far. I like the new additions they keep picking up in each episode. I think my favorite character in this particular book is Andy. You can't help liking him when he is so chivalrous. Really enjoyed the narration.

Too unrealistic

The ridiculous descriptions of technology throughout this story are becoming tedious. And the plot isn't particularly believable either. The characters are very colorful although a bit flat and stereotypical. The romance is predictable and obligatory.

Derek Shoales performance is very good. He gives distinctive and consistent voices to the characters, although his accents aren't especially accurate.

All in all, there isn't enough realism in this story to capture and hold my attention. It's just too far over the top.
