About this listen

Can a father murder his only child?

Kyla Gardener’s dead body is found on her bed one early morning. She had been stabbed multiple times. Her father, Paul, has blood stains on his shirt, and his fingerprints are all over the murder weapon. Paul has no memory of what happened.

Kyla’s mother, Sharon, was not at home when the murder occurred. She was having an affair with her yoga instructor. Private investigator Lee Callaway was also at the Gardener residence on the night of the murder. He had been following Sharon at the behest of his client, Paul.

When all evidence points to Paul as the murderer, Callaway takes on the case to prove his innocence. As he searches for answers, he uncovers a web of lies, secrets, and deceit.

Book was OK but the narrator...

The narration drove me nuts. His voice inflections and high voice for characters was more than I could stand. Didn't finish the book. I enjoy narrators whose voices are like those in real life- the way people talk. This narrator isn't any of that. Ruined it for me.

Narration is awful

Storyline pretty good — narration not so much. I’m hoping the next in the series has a different narrator.

Okay story with poor naration.

The story was interesting although there were some minor errors in legal and police procedural issues. There were also some grammatical errors. These kinds of errors tend to annoy me as I'm listening. However, the most annoying thing of all was the terrible naration. The dialogue made every character sound like a petulant Tim Gunn. I would recommend the book-in the printed version only.

Want to finish

This book got sooo many good reviews that I really want to finish.

However…. the narrator is horrible. Sooo hard to listen to.

Loved story, but the narration was horrible.

This was a great mystery that kept me guessing. The narration was the absolute worse I've heard. I had trouble finishing the book because of it. would most likely purchase more by this author, but definitely not if the narrator is the same!

I couldn’t handle the narrators voice.

The story wasn’t a bad story. But the narrators voice almost made me not finish the recording.

This narration was a traffic jam!

To me, listening to an audiobook can be compared to driving to an interesting destination. Sometimes you're traveling at a leisurely pace, enjoying the ride. Sometimes you're flying down the highway, adrenaline pumping. Poor narration can be a speed bump or a traffic jam. A speed bump is something that is a distraction, you have to slow down, but you can get back up to speed pretty quickly & still get where you're going (I'll continue listening). A traffic jam has you coming to a complete stop every 10 feet, for miles, with no end in sight. You'll want to avoid the frustration & find a different route to reach your destination (I'll ditch the audiobook & read the book). The main character's voice is fine. But the high pitched voice that was used for supporting characters was tantamount to a traffic jam, for me. The story was engaging & I will go buy, or borrow from the library, the physical book to finish.
