About this listen

Joe Gunther, a longtime Vermont cop and now the head of the Vermont Bureau of Investigation, gets the call that every law-enforcement person hates: a cop has been shot and killed. A deputy sheriff was shot to death during a routine traffic stop on a dark country road.

From what can been seen on the cruiser's video recorder of the killers, it is believed that they were a couple of Boston-based drug runners who had been on their way from Canada down to Boston.

That's what brings Gunther and his team to the investigation: an attempt to shut down the major drug running operation, especially that of one Alan Budney. He's the disaffected son of a lobsterman, now a drug kingpin, who uses the closed, clannish lobster fishing community and his extended family in particular, to move drugs along the New England coast.

What happened to Tom Taylorson?

I got as far as chapter 5 and couldn’t take it anymore. The narration was fine but the voices were horrible especially Joe and Willie.

Not fond of the new narrator for this series

I really enjoyed hearing the narrator for all the prior books. But this new guy, who does have a nice pleasant voice when he is just telling the story, but every time he tries to voice Will, it just makes my skin crawl...

But the story is just as good as ever and I will continue with the next book in the series...

Was used to the last narrator

Good mystery. Joe quickly switched girlfriends and she was an immediate focus of content. I will have to get used to the new narrator. The old one already had given me a visual of Joe and his team. The new narrator has me changing my mind’s eye.

Awesome story-telling!

I love this author. I much prefer Tom Taylorson as narrator but this guy is not too bad. Some of his voices sounded the same though. There was a skip in the recording in the beginning of chapter 27 and I rewound twice with no improvement.

Disappointment

i was disappointed Tom Taylorsville was not narrating. this was like changing out all of the characters on your favorite TV show. I didn't like the voices for each character. probably my last book in the series.

Narration not that bad

it's the story that's blah. it adds nothing to the series except how Lynn's family boat is found.

Reader

The new reader just doesn’t fit. Story not strong, but still carries reader gradually to the end.

Not the same…

I have become addicted to the Joe Gunther series and the characters within. Unfortunately, because all the previous audio books in this series were narrated by Tom Taylorson, this new narration just didn’t have the same feel. I hope the publisher is aware of this and changes it back in future Joe Gunther audio books.

Audio failed

Having paid full price for this audiobook, I was not pleased to have the recording catch and then skip a segment not once but repeatedly showing poor audio quality.
